Chapter Five

"MOM!" I yelled walking into my parents home.

"Honey!" she exclaimed running out of the kitchen and embracing me in a hug.

"Where's Dad?" I asked.

"Garage, he's fixing the car," she answered.

"Im going to say hi," I told her and walked out to the garage.

"Hi Daddy," I said. The only thing I could see were my father's feet that just barely stuck out from the bottom of the car.

"Is that you baby?" he asked.

"Yep," I giggled.

He slid out from under the car and stood up. Grease and oil was all over him.

"Ewww, Daddy," I said when he pulled me in for a hug.

"Aww, you can wash it," he laughed.

"I missed you Daddy," I told him.

"I missed you too, your mother and I are very proud of you though," he told me.

"Thanks," I smiled.

"I'll be in in a little while," he told me.

"Ok," I said going back inside. My father, disappeared under the car, again.

"Whatcha making?" I asked leaning over my mother to see what was cooking.

"Soup, now get out of here!" she ordered with a smile on her face.

"So, what are you going to do with the time you have off?" my mother asked adding ingrediants to her soup.

"I dont know, really. Im going to relax, catch up on some sleep and just enjoy myself," I sighed.

"Well, why dont you go get washed up, I see your father got to you, and come down for dinner," she told me.

"Ok," I said grabbing my bags and walking upstairs to my room.

I smiled as I ran and jumped on my bed and just stared at the ceiling. I dont remember the last time I was in a comfortable bed.

"I need a shower," I said and walked to my bathroom. I turned on the shower and got undressed. It felt so good to let the warm water run over my sore body.

As soon as I was done, I changed into a pair of jean shorts and a pink tank top. I ran downstairs after brushing my hair and pulling it lazily into a pony-tail.

"Honey, Leah called. Call her back and see if she wants to come to dinner," my mother told me.

I picked up the phone and dialed Leah's number.

"Hello?" she answered.

"Hey Leah, my mom wants you to come to dinner," I told her.

"Ok," she said.

"You're coming?" I asked.

"Yeah, can Shawn?" she asked.

"Of course!" I said.

"Ok, Im on my way," she told me. We hung up and I looked at my mother as she set the table.

"I missed you so much Mom," I told her.

"I missed you too," she said smiling.

"So, Marissa, have you found anyone?" my mother asked. I looked at her, I wasnt expecting that. It came out of nowhere.

"Mom, you know I havent," I sighed.

"Why not?" she asked.

"Because I havent found anyone that likes me for me and not for who I am," I whispered.

"He'll come along," she told me.

"Well, I hope he hurries up, Im losing faith," I sighed.

"Dont worry about it sweetie," she smiled. Just then the phone rang. I picked it up and brought it to my ear.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Is Marissa there?" a male voice asked.

"This is Marissa," I answered.

"Hey Marissa, it's Howie," he said. A huge smile spread across my face and my heart started pounding.

"Hey," I said shyly.

"I was wondering what you're doing this evening?" he asked.

"Im not doing anything," I answered.

"Well, I was wondering if you wanted to go out to a club or something. Leah and Shawn could go too," he asked. I could tell he was nervous. Man, I wouldnt have the balls to just call someone and ask them out.

"Sure, Id love to! What about Samantha?" I asked.

"She's staying at her Grandma's," he answered.

"Oh, ok, cool. Yeah, we could go out tonight," I answered.

"Well, when and where should I pick you up?" he asked.

I gave him directions to my house and told him to be here at 7. It's 5:30 right now. That gives me time to eat and get ready. Just as I hung up the phone, the doorbell rang. I ran to answer it.

"Hey guys," I said inviting Leah and Shawn in.

"Hey, what's with the goofy grin?" Leah asked.

"Huh?" I asked.

"You've got the biggest, goofiest grin on your face," she told me.

"I do?" I asked.

"Yeah," she laughed.

"Oh, guess who the three of us are going out with tonight?" I asked.

"Who?" Leah asked.

"Howie," I answered.

"Who's that?" Leah asked.

"The guy we had dinner with yesterday," I answered, laughing.

"Marissa, you just met him," Leah frowned.

"Well, how else am I supposed to get to know him?" I asked matter-of-factly.

"You want to get to know him?" she asked.

"Yeah, why not?" I asked a little hurt.

"You just dont usually want to get to know guys better. You dont date many guys," she pointed out.

"Im not dating Howie," I told her.

"I know, but when you want to get to know someone better, that usually leads to dating them," she told me.

"Nah," I denied.

"Yeah," she smiled.
