Chapter Four

“Wake up Miranda,” I heard. I groaned and pulled the covers over my head.

“Miranda, someone’s here to see you,” I heard John whisper to me. I mumbled something incoherent and tried my best to block out the voice.

“Miranda,” I heard a different voice whisper.

I jumped up and was face to face with Nick.

“What are you doing here?” I asked.

“Nice to see you too,” he laughed.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean it like that,” I mumbled and laid back down.

“Im going to go downstairs and get some breakfast,” John said and walked out of the hotel room.

“What are you still doing in bed?” Nick asked. I looked over at the clock next to the bed.

9:30

“Sleeping,” I answered.

“Aww, come on, rise and shine pumpkin,” he said throwing the covers off me, revealing the dress I had worn last night, tangled with my body.

“Nice...” Nick said.

“I was too tired to take it off,” I mumbled and grabbed my bag and stumbled to the bathroom. I finally woke up and realized who was sitting in my hotel room, waiting for me, after I washed my face. I brushed my teeth, brushed the tangles out of my hair, pulled it into a messy pony-tail and changed into a pair of short jean shorts and a white skin tight tank top. I walked out of the bathroom and saw Nick sitting on one of those uncomfortable chairs, staring blankly at the t.v.

“Good morning,” I said smiling.

“Wow, the bathroom does wonders,” he laughed.

“And what exactly is that supposed to mean?” I asked, trying to act offended.

“You’re so much nicer now,” he laughed.

“Jeez, thanks,” I smiled.

“So, what time does your flight leave today?” he asked. I looked over at the clock, it was now 9:45.

“Well, we have to leave the hotel in about forty five minutes,” I answered.

“Us too, what airlines are you using?” he asked.

“Northwest,” I replied.

“Us too, looks like we’re on the same flight,” he laughed.

“Tampa?” I asked.

“Yep,” he nodded. This is way too much. I would be on the same flight as him and everything, this is way too good to be true.

“Well, I need to get my stuff packed up,” I said, walking over to the duffel bag I had brought, throwing everything into it. It took a total of five minutes to pack up.

“So, can I take you out to breakfast?” Nick asked.

“Um, yeah, that’d be nice,” I said smiling.

As Nick and I were walking out, John was walking in, holding a plate of food.

“Just meet me downstairs in thirty minutes for us to leave for the airport,” he told me.

“Ok,” I nodded and Nick and I went downstairs to the restaurant.

“Dont you have to pack up?” I asked, looking up at Nick.

“No, all of our stuff is already in the limos, we just have to go when it’s time,” he told me.

“I see,” I nodded.

Nick and I took a seat and ate a quick breakfast. When it was time to leave, we hugged and got into our separate limos.

“So, tell me all about it,” John said as we pulled away from the airport.

I began to tell John all about Nick.

“He is so cute!” I exclaimed after my entire story.

“How old are you?” he laughed at me.

I stuck my tongue out at him, but blushed.

“So, got the same flight, huh?” he asked.

“Yeah, isn’t that so weird?” I asked looking at John, he just laughed.

“What?” I asked confused.

“Nothing sweetheart, I just think it’s funny,” he told me.

I smiled and looked out the window. We were pulling up to the airport and the limo came to a stop in front of the doors.

“Well, let’s go,” John said getting out of the limo first, I followed after him. I saw Nick running with two bodyguards at his side. I smiled and grabbed my bag.

“Good thing Im not that big,” I laughed to John pointing to Nick.

“Oh my G-d! You’re Miranda, right? That model? You announced the Artist of the Year last night, huh?” asked a girl, about 16 or 17.

“Um, yeah,” I said smiling. I wasn’t expecting anyone to really recognize me.

“Wow, are the Backstreet Boys cuter in life?” she smiled.

“Cuter,” I nodded.

“Oh, I love AJ,” she sighed. I laughed and looked around uncomfortably.

“Well, can I have your autograph?” she asked smiling.

“Sure, do you have something?” I asked.

“Yeah, here,” she said handing me a piece of paper and a pen. I signed the paper and handed it back to her.

“Mind if I get a picture with you?” she asked.

“No, not at all,” I nodded. I saw her mother now, standing a few feet away with a camera in hand. I put my arm around the girl and we smiled for the camera.

“Thank you so much,” she smiled.

“No problem,” I smiled.

“You ready? We don’t want to miss our flight,” John asked after the photo was taken.

“Yeah, it was nice meeting you,” I walked off with John. We checked in and patiently waited for the flight. I was reading a book when I felt someone sit down in the chair next to me. I didn’t think anything of it and kept reading.

“You’re so sexy,” I jumped and looked next to me to see who was whispering in my ear. I recognized Nick and smiled. He had a white baseball hat on and reading glasses, which made him look so cute.

“Nice hat,” I said looking up.

“This old thing?” he laughed and looked away.

“So, shouldn’t you be in some secret security room or something?” I asked winking.

“Not until a mob of girls come charging at me,” he smiled.

“If only we were all that lucky,” I batted my eyelashes, mocking him.

“Yeah, so whatcha reading?” he asked looking into my book.

“The Great Gatsby,” I replied.

Nick raised an eyebrow.

“I know, I read it in 11th grade and ever since have been addicted. I love it,” I shrugged.

“So, how many times have you read it?” he asked.

“At least three times a month,” I smiled.

“And where do you find time to do that in a busy schedule of some model?” he asked.

“When Im waiting for flights or in between sessions, why? Dont you read?” I asked.

“Not anymore than I have to,” he said smiling. His smile was becoming more and more addicting.

“Well, I recommend The Great Gatsby,” I told him.

“I’ll have to think about picking that up. Any other suggestions?” he asked.

“Gone With The Wind,” I replied.

“You really get into the old books don’t you?” he asked.

“Not any more than I have to,” I teased.

“Yeah, well...” he smiled.

“Flight 234 to Tampa is now boarding,” the intercom said.

“Well, thats us, what seat do you have?” I asked standing up.

“Seat 24B, you?” he asked.

“24D, we’re across from each other. That’s really weird,” I told him.

“Yeah, kinda,” he said and grabbed his bags.

“John, you ready?” I asked looking down at John who was gathering his things.

“Yeah, hey, Nick, here,” John said handing him his ticket.

“Uh, no thanks. I have my own,” Nick said swinging his backpack over his shoulder.

“No, you can have my seat, so you and Miranda can talk,” he said.

“Oh, you sure you don’t mind?” Nick asked.

“Not at all, let’s go,” John said and we followed him onto the plane.

Nick and I sat down next to each other, the seat next to Nick open for someone else to occupy it. We were in first class, so it wasnt too risky to leave it open.

“So, Nick,” I said turning to him.

“Yes, Miranda?” he asked.

“What are you doing when you get back to Florida?” I asked.

“Laying low. Im not doing a thing,” he laughed.

I smiled and nodded.

“What about you?” he asked.

“I dont know. John what am I doing when I get back to Florida?” I asked looking past Nick to John.

“Nothing for a few days. Then, on Monday you have a photo shoot with Cover Girl,” he told me.

“That’s what Im doing,” I laughed.

“Maybe we could do something this weekend then,” he suggested.

“Yeah, that sounds cool. What would we do?” I asked.

“I dont know. I’d have to give it some thought,” he said.

“Oh, so we both don’t forget, Im going to give you my number now,” I said opening my purse. I scribbled down the number and handed it to Nick.

“Please fasten your seat belts, we’ll be taking off soon,” the flight attendant said walking by us. Nick and I snapped our seatbelts together and I leaned back.

“So, when’s the last time you had a boyfriend?” Nick asked me.

“Hmm, two days ago, and when was the last time you had a girlfriend?” I asked.

“Two days ago?!” he asked.

“Yeah,” I laughed.

“Wow, what happened? If you don’t mind me asking,” he asked.

“Oh, he couldn’t handle my beliefs, so, he left,” I said.

“Jeez, how long were you two together?” he asked.

“A little over two years,” I replied.

“You’d think he’d understand by then,” Nick said.

“Yeah, well, so, you didnt answer my question. When’s the last time you’ve had a girlfriend?” I asked.

“About six months, in my eyes,” he sighed.

“What’s the supposed to mean?” I asked, squinting my eyes at him. The plane took off, I hadnt even noticed we were moving.

“She’s one of those girls who don’t get the picture. I’ve told her so many times I didn’t want to be with her and she just keeps coming back, acting like nothing happened,” he explained.

“Well, what happened?” I asked.

“She was too protective. You know? Like, sometimes its cute when a girl’s like that, but her it was just annoying and ridiculous. I wasn’t allowed to look at any women, when we went restaurants I wasnt allowed to looked at the waitress, and everything. It just got old and I don’t like women like that,” he continued.

“When I told her I didnt like when she did that I was accused of cheating on her and everything,” he said.

I looked at him nervously.

“But, anyways, so, tell me about modeling,” he said looking equally nervous.

“What do you want to know?” I asked.

“Do you meet a lot of people?” he asked.

“Yeah, it’s cool,” I said.

“That’s good. Can I take you out to dinner tonight?” he asked.

“Whoa, where did that come from,” I giggled.

“I dont know. I just really want to take you out tonight,” he informed me.

“Uh, sure,” I smiled.

“Great,” he smiled. I leaned back against the seat and felt my eyes begin to drift closed and I fell asleep after a moment or two. When I woke up, my head was on Nick’s shoulder and his head was on top of mine. He woke up at the same time I did, at a flash in front of us. I looked to see who it was and it was John.

“Sorry, I couldn’t resist,” he laughed and went back to his seat. I smiled and looked up at Nick who was rubbing his eyes.

I yawned and tried my best to crack the pain out of my neck, with little success.

“The plane’s landing soon anyway,” John told us.

I smiled up at Nick and had a urge to lean up and kiss him, but I didnt.

“You know what I noticed?” Nick asked, leaning in close to my ear.

“What?” I asked.

“I haven’t kissed you all day,” he replied.

I pretended to gasp and turned to him, “How did you do it?”

“I dont know, but Im not going to go through the rest not doing it,” he said.

“Is that a threat?” I asked smiling.

“I dont know, you tell me,” he said and leaned in and placed his lips on mine. His lips were soft and his mouth tasted good, I couldnt pick out a certain taste. We opened our mouths and our tongues met, softly and gently moving with each other. Nick’s hand moved up to the back of my neck, where he placed his hand and mine was on the side of his face, caressing his smooth skin.

“I could kiss you all day,” he said when we pulled away.

“Is that a threat?” I asked smiling.

“I dont know, you tell me,” he smiled back and pressed his lips to mine again.
