EDV Associates: It Began with The Pencil.
The most underrated of all the artist's tools.
The Pencil is one of the cheapest yet versatile of all tools an artist can use. It can take repeated punishment, can last for a long time and is affordable enough to be lost without tears. In the absence of all other mediums, all one needs is a pencil and a surface to create on.
Some samples of pencil work created on whatever was available. All artwork copyright Eric Dana Vaughan Multiple images loading, please be patient.

Fantasy Illustration
A piece called the Elven Home. I was trying to imagine a typical Elven Family of some status, with a diverse range of individuals. There were enough battle and magic oriented pictures I have seen, so I wanted to create something akin to an ordinary day.

Historical Portraiture
A landmark piece for me. I have a fondness for Contemporary Celtic Music, especially Rita Connelly. Whilst listening to her music, a suite about the life and times of Granuaile, the 16th Century Pirate-Queen Grace O'Malley of Ireland, I imagined how she must have looked, standing on her ship, the wind in her hair off the coast of Clew Bay, County Mayo. I hadn't drawn anything in over 13 years, so taking a pencil and a large piece of leftover cardboard from a skid of laser paper, Granuaile, was given life.

Historical Portraiture
Before my wife and I met, we corresponded for nearly a year. Sharing letters, artwork, and photos by mail. She possesses one of the most incredible imaginations I have ever met. As a gift, I took some of her characters she created on separate papers and posed them all together with her as the center character.
