The Land of the Tiger
Please enjoy this sampling of terrain from the Desert and the Oasis
The first piece is a palace I created, complete with dome, muezzin tower, and both a courtyard and a reflecting pool. Originally, it was to be open backed to allow figure movement but I screwed up on the gluing. Now it's just a backdrop.
This piece was done using double thickness Foam Board, cut and textured to resemble a rocky bank in the desert. The Temple, was created using another fine Dept56 product called "Brick Floor", but as you can see, it makes much better walls than a floor. The texture of both the temple and the sand was done with an excellent product called SandStone by DecoArt. You brush it on over your paint foundation, as it dries clear. It also comes in several colors. The two figures are standing over an actual well that I added, complete with wooden cover and E-Z Water dollop inside.
This next piece, is what I envisioned as a turn of the century Moroccan market. It is complete with stalls, baskets of produce, and even a meat seller and nan bread baker.
This oasis was a great joy to do. Ever since I found this great product by Woodland Scenics called E-Z Water, I look for as many opportunities to use it. You simply put the granules in a tin can, heat it on the stove, and pour. Excellent Product! Here are a few miscellaneous smaller works that fit right in with the desert and Eastern themes:
THE CARPET MERCHANT
This is a small Bedouin Camp, complete with tent ties, divided quarters for both men and women, and the wrap that is rolled up (not shown) in the back that secures the tent for the night.
DID YOU EVER IMAGINE A PLACE?
