Paranormal, is an umbrella term for a variety of anomalous phenomena. In parapsychology, it is used to describe the ostensibly psychic phenomena of telepathy, extra-sensory perception, psychokinesis, ghosts, and hauntings.

The term is also applied to UFOs, some creatures that fall under the scope of cryptozoology, purported phenomena surrounding the Bermuda Triangle, and other non-psychical subjects.

Paranormal is often used to denote unusual experiences that lack an obvious scientific explanation. Stories relating to paranormal phenomena are widespread in popular culture and folklore, but the United States National Science Foundation has stated that mainstream science does not support paranormal beliefs. A ghost is said to be the apparition of a deceased person.

I feel that the fear of the unknown tends to sway people from trying to find the truth out for themselves.

I would like to talk about the scam of people offering others to become a "certified Ghost Hunter". The reason I call it a scam is, there is no such legit certificate to be given out.

This is a fast way for people to make money off of people trying to get into ghost hunting, they are charging any where from 99 dollars to 400 dollars. The people who offer these lessons are not certified themselves although they say there are, all they have a worthless piece of paper that says the have been certified.

These people should be stopped for giving false certificates saying people are certified. A certificate for completing a lesson is ok, but they can not give you a certificate that calls you a "Certified Ghost Hunter", when there is no such thing.

What I find is funny, is that when I have gone to these "teachers" website's, their evidence should be thrown out the door! Orb's, mists and pictures with long exposures, nothing that proves paranormal activity.

My concern is if someone searches the Internet for help and they come upon two sties, one that says, certified ghost hunter and one that does not, which do you think they are going to choose if they have no idea there is no such thing as being certified. It is my hope that paranormal teams will start posting this information on their website so we can spread the word.

Pareidolia and Matrixing
When judging your pictures there are many things you have to keep in mind, two of them are Pareidolia and Matrixing.

Most cases I have seen of matrixing, it is caused by enlarging a picture until you see objects that look familiar. It is our mind’s natural way to see things we know. In pictures I have seen with matrixing, as of lately, they have contained faces that do not look like a human but look like cartoon figures or monsters at best. These are not paranormal images as a few people seem to believe, it is their imagination at best. When enlarged, pictures of a forest, fields, fire, mirrors, glass and even a closet filled with items, they may seem there is paranormal activity happening. In these types of pictures we will perceive them to contain faces, skulls, demons, and other things that are not really there. In a forest it maybe a collection of different things, such as, shadows, sun, tree limbs, leaves or even a bird in a tree that mesh together, and create a image.

When I look at a picture I feel there is a difference between Pareidolia and Matrixing, although others do not. Pareidolia for me is not the changing of a picture but pareidolia is what we see when looking at the moon and we see the man in the moon. Pareidolia is clouds that take on shapes which we know, such as, animals, faces, and other things that are familiar. Pareidoila may be in a untouched picture you take, and if you see a object that you think maybe paranormal, you may want to go back where you took the picture, and make your own judgment. I looked at a picture today of Gettysburg where you would swear there was a apparition of a man, but the man who took the picture explained that is was only a part of a large rock and a tree stump. The picture was untouched, not enlarged, but it sure looked like a man just standing alone, but it is an example of pareidolia.

Here is my example of pareidolia. The leaves, sun light, shadows and trees have formed a face.

Do not let anyone tell you that a picture contains paranormal activity when the picture has been so distorted by enlarging you can not see what the picture truly is. Pictures that are blurred due to movement when taking a picture are not pictures one can give an opinion on, because there is no way you can tell what you are seeing.
One of the most popular pictures I have seen, are pictures that are due to shutter settings and camera movement. So many people have no idea what results you get when you do not have the settings on your camera correct. Swirls of lights, blurred faces and many other effects you will get when your settings are not correct. Tripods are important to use when your shutter speed is set on a slow speed. If you claim to be a investigator you need to understand how your equipment works and also means you need to know about your camera, it is one of the most important tools you will use.

Just recently I was banned from a website because I explained to the person, who happened to runs the site that the information I got from her picture was a result of slow shutter speed, and camera movement. I had the proof because I used a photo program to find the EXIF, which told me what the shutter speed was set at. She informed me I had infringed on the copyrights which was nonsense. She would rather put her picture out there to have people think she took this wonderful picture with paranormal anomalies then to be honest what had caused the picture to look like it did, is this a way she was trying to gain notoriety? All these things create doubt in any research good investigators do.

I have been having a hard time with people who seem to like to "create" pictures and pawn them off as paranormal anomalies. Shadow people are very easy to create when using such programs as Photoshop. I am not really sure why people do this, is it to gain notoriety? I love to create ghost/apparition/ shadow people pictures, but I do make it clear they are pictures that have been created.
