Jacksonville University Athletic Field
Meet
On October 2, the N..R.O.T.C. unit at Robert E. lee traveled to J.U. at 0700. But it all started around 0600 by the cadets bringing out their unit spirit. They painted each others aes lue an ray. Some even painted their hair. At 0700, the blue and gray cades piled on the bus to make their journey to J.U. During the course of the althletic field meet, we all had fun in such events as izzy dizzy and the wheel barrow race. The other events were the tug of war. Even though we didn't succeed in any of these races, the cadets till had fun.Which is what we set out to do. |
From the
C.O.
Welcome old and new cadets to the
N.J.R.O.T.C. unit of Rebert E. Lee. I have
many goal I would like to achieve in this
unit. One is to have more unit participation
from cadets. I would also like for the uit
to participate in more community activities.
This will help our uit get better known
throughout the year. Another goal that I have
set for us this year is to enter as many
field meets as possible. By achieving these
goals we can be the best unit the nation has
seen, as well as Robert. E. Lee. These goals
can be met easily if all the cadets in this
unit not only participate but are committed
and self-desciplined. |
To all Drill
Team Members
You have chosen to participate in a very fu
but self-discilined activity. This means
that each member has to do the following in
order to be sucessful:
Do Your Best: Give 110% effort
in learning and perfecting the drill routine.
Maintain Your GPA (2.0):
Remember that grades always come first, and
that if they don't reach the standards you
can always be replaced.
Be There: If you are not
there you can't be taught or even perfect
your performance.
Keep the Attitudes At Home:
Every cadet has to have respect for each
other. 1st years need to remember that if
someone is telling you what to do he or she
has a good reason for it. Also he or she has
earned the respect and the authority to do
so. 2nd years and above, do not constantly
yell at the 1st years, remember that they are
new at this and you were there once. So be
patient with them, yet strict. Above all,
remember to be a leader. In doing all this
the Robert E Lee unit will be successful in
reaching the goals that have been set.

First
Impressions
*Easy, described my first impression of
N.J.R.O.T.C. Watching students march from
previous years influenced the thought of
enrollling in the class as smooth as
possible. My first year I decided to get my
uniform early and study the manual over the
summer break, so I could be ahead. But my
first day was very difficult, I was given
commands that I read the whole summer. They
seemed to vanish and my feet felt glued to
the ground as I marched. Each day, my
marching gets better. But my first
impression has changed a lot and it will keep
changing as the year
progresses.
To tell you the truth, I wasn't very
excited about joining R.O.T.C. affiliated
with the Navy. I always thought that the
Navy wasn't as disciplined as the Marines:
Technology, asvanced as the AirForce: For
war strategic and patriotic as the Army. I
always thought they were pompus no-name
sailors "swabbies", But this unit has
taught me a lot about the military and life.
Even though I still plan on joining the Air
Force, my opinions about the Navy has changed
due to this unit
My first impression of N.J.R.O.T.C. was
that it prepared you for the world. I came
to this from watching both of my sisters go
through the corse and having a better
character coming out. |

Cadet Of The
Quarter
This cadet has risen above the other cadets
in the unit and shown many important
characteristics that it takes to be a leader.
This cadet is also willing to learn, andnot
complain. The Unit gives recognition to the
1st nine weeks Cadet of the Quarter
Congratulations Benford
Second Platoon has shown many qualities to
show that they are dedicated to the idea of
being the best. The Platoon Commander
Hutcherson has helped improve the
cadet's ability to march and expand their
military knowledge. The rest of the unit
gives comgratulations to the best Platooon of
Robert E. Lee.
The unit gives a special thanks to:
I got a nervous as the first day of Boot
Camp came closer, but I didn't let anyone
know. When we finally got there and we drove
through the barracks I noticed that there
were Drill Instructors standing at each
barrack. That made my stomach turn into
knots. When we finally got off the buss, I
had to put my face agains a wall. I got in
trouble for laughing, and had to do pushups
which taught me a lesson. Throughout the
weekend I learned how to repel and find my
way through the woods. I also learned in LRC
that paying attention to detail is an
important quality of a leader. All in all.
though, I had fun.Kelly
On the way to Boot Camp I was scared
because of the stories I have been told.
When we arreveed there, we were told to get
off the bus and to find our platoon. When we
found our platoon the Drill Instructor's (DI)
called role call. During roll calll we did
pushups and six-inch killers. This was the
pattern of the whole weekend. Pt. after Pt.
We got woke by trascans flying across the
room at 0500 every morning. After going
through all of this I was o happy when
graduation rolled around. I was proud of
my-self because I made it through one of the
toughest weekends I have ever
experienced.Harris
Everyone had planted in my mind I would cry
and that I would have it hard at boot camp
because I am small. When we arrived at Camp
Blanding my heart dropped to the ground. At
first it was hard to find my platoon, but
when I found it I was told to drop my "trash"
on the ground. Then we started doing pt.
When we woke up at 0430 in the morning, we
did pt and we did more pt untill we wen to
bed at 1230. I learned many things at boot
camp. One thing that I learned is it is
better working as a team than by myself. You
also learn self-control. Boot camp was a fun
experience, and i would recommend it to
anyone.Hawkins
