The Backstreet Boys' brand new single is The Call. The song is released sometime in February, and is currently playing on all good music shows.
In the UK you can see The Call on: MTV Select, MTV Extra, The Box and Play UK.
In the US you can see The Call everyday on TRL and various other music shows.
~ Shape Of My Heart ~
In the UK, Shape Of My heart reached number 4 in the charts, which the BSB were pleased about.
ALBUM NEWS
Black & Blue has sold over 200,000 copies in the UK, but unfortunately the album is currently around number 70-90 in the charts!
In the US, Black & Blue didn't beat Millennium's record but it sold over one million copies in the first week! Well done, boys!
TOUR NEWS
The Backstreet Boys' world tour, entitled The Call, starts in January in Florida. For full details check out Tour News on this website.
So far, the Backstreet Boys have not released dates for touring in Europe, but they expect to be coming over here some time in May or June.
Warning to all fans taking the GCSEs this year: The Backstreet Boys will probably be touring over here during the exams, so let's hope they'll be playing major venues on a weekend!
AWARDS
The Backstreet Boys walked away with 'Best Group' at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Stockholm, beating off competition from the likes of the Chilli Peppers, Travis, and Blink 182. The Backstreet Boys were absolutely over the moon, and rightly so!
The Backstreet Boys received an American Music Award for Best Group (I think), so well done boys!
And onto the Grammys! Yikes! :)
The Backstreet Boys have once again received a nomination, and this year it's for Best Duo or Group for Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely, so let's hope they finally receive a Grammy!
At this year's Smash Hits Poll Winners' Party (groan) the BSB didn't receive any awards, but they didn't even get in the top 10 nominations for any of the 'worst' categories, so well done!
OTHER BSB NEWS
On January 28th, Nick Carter's 21st birthday, the Backstreet Boys will be singing the National Anthem in Tampa, Florida at the annual Superbowl (basically the FA Cup of American Football). Well done again, boys!
Happy birthday to AJ, who turned 23 on January 9th this year, and happy birthday in advance to Brian, who will be 26 on February 20th!
MAGAZINES
At the moment, there is an interview with the Backstreet Boys in this month's TV Hits, and there's also an interview with Howie, Kevin and Nick in this month's Top Of The Pops. I'll put transcripts of those up as soon as I can!
FAN CLUBS
At the moment, there is only one English-speaking fan club, which is the US fan club. However if you go to the website (www.bsbfunclub.com) the small print will tell you that you have to be a resident of either the US or Canada, which is very helpful to everyone outside the boundaries of North America and Canada.
However, there is an online fan club available on the Backstreet Boys' re-designed website backstreetboys.com"). I was looking at this the other day, and the price is $24.95 to join (which is about £16.60) for a year. But there isn't anything actually in your hands...there's no sent newsletter, only material via email. There're no cute little postcards or stickers which you get on joining, and there seem to be very few privileges. I also noticed that the online fan club (and website also) are incredibly America-orientated, so for all you die-hard British fans out there, I'd recommend that you steer clear of the online fan club.
SO WHEN WILL THERE BE A NEW BRITISH FAN CLUB?
I have written to the Backstreet Boys' management, The Firm, who told me that they are trying to sort something out. However, they told me that about six months ago, and still there is no sign of a fan club. I will be writing to them again soon, and if any of you from Europe want to include a message relating to fan clubs or anything else about the Backstreet Boys (and not messages of how much you love them!) then email me at the address below and I will be sure to include your messages in my letter!
