Never Judge a Book By Its Cover
Chapter 15
I practically threw myself into my room and onto my bed face-first. I knew that AJ, Jenn, and Brian were in my room, but I didn't care. All I could do was cry.
"Baby, what's wrong?" asked Brian sitting next to me.
"Nothing," I said crying harder as I felt his hand on my back.
"Somthing's gotta be wrong. Your crying hystarically." He laid down on his stomach next to me and rubbed my back.
"My uncle is making Erika and I go back to Chicago tomorrow..." I said quietly. Brian's jaw dropped.
"Why baby?"
"He found out about what we did this afternoon." Brian's jaw dropped even further. "Don't worry, though, Bri. I don't think he knows it was you." Brian closed his mouth a little.
"You can't leave, Kate, you just can't!" he said wrapping his arms around me.
"I don't have control over my own life. My mom has complete control over everything that I do. When my uncle tells her, I know I'm going to be in so much trouble."
"Why don't you just move down here?"
"You don't understand about my life up there. I'm in college. I can't just give that all up. I've been trying to get into this college for about 2 years, since I got out of high school, and now I'm finally accepted! I can't quit before I start."
"You can get into the University of Central Florida and you could move in with me."
"Brian, please. You knew what we have wasn't going last anyway. Maybe it's better that I'm leaving now, and not a month from now. That way I don't have a chance to get any more attached then I already am. And besides all of that, I can't leave my mom. She needs me. I'm all she has." Brian was silent. He just turned over and stared up at the ceiling. "I'm so sorry."
"You don't need to be sorry. I'm as much to blame as you."
"What's wrong, guys?" asked Jenn coming over to us with AJ.
"Kaitlyn and Erika have to go back to Chicago tomorrow," said Brian still staring up at the ceiling.
"I didn't think you had to leave for another month. What happened?" asked AJ sitting on the other side of me. I told AJ and Jenn about what happened. When I was done I was in tears again. All I wanted was to stay there with my new friends forever, but I knew I couldn't leave my mom there all alone. And school. I couldn't just drop everything and move to a place where everyone was a stranger to me except for 8 people. I just wasn't ready to have to start a whole new life.
"It'll be okay, baby. I promise," said Brian rocking me back and forth as I cried into his chest. "We'll talk everyday and we'll write to each other all the time. It'll be like you never left." I just nodded, still crying. I had a feeling it wouldn't last even if we did vow to each other to call and write. There was a knock on the door and everyone looked up to see my uncle standing in the doorway.
"Kaitlyn, I need to talk to you again," he said then walked away wanting me to follow. Brian pulled his arms from around me as I stood up and walked out of my room to talk to my uncle. He was waiting downstairs again.
"Kaitlyn, I talked to your mother," he said motioning for me to sit down. I nodded.
"She hates me, doesn't she?" I said looking at the floor.
"No. She's a little upset. I tried to convince her to let you stay at least a little while longer, but she refused. You and Erika still have to leave tomorrow."
"I thought you were the one who wanted Erika and I to leave?"
"I did, but when I heard how you and Brian were talking to each other I stopped and thought about how I would feel if I were in your shoes. I'm sorry, Kaitlyn, but there's nothing that will change your mom's mind now," he said sitting next to me.
"Okay," I said standing up and walking back up the stairs.
"Oh, Kate," he called after me from the foot of the stairs.
"Yeah?" I asked turning around as tears welled up in my eyes.
"Your flight is at noon. You might want to pack tonight." I wanted to throw something at him. I knew he was lying about trying to convince my mom into letting me stay. Once his mind was set, he wouldn't let anyone change it. He just didn't want me to hate him. I turned and ran back into my room crying. Not even aknowledging that there were people in my room I threw my suitcase out of my closet and onto my bed. Then I ran over to my dresser and started throwing my clothes in it.
"Baby, baby, slow down," said Brian holding my arms down.
"No! I can't stand this! Every time I fall in love with someone some kind of shit like this happens. I hate my life!" I said bursting into tears and falling into Brian's arms.
"Let's get you out of here for a while, okay?" asked Brian looking down at me. I nodded, still crying.
"Okay, let's go to my apartment then." I nodded again. I leaned on him for support as we went down the stairs with AJ and Jenn close behind us.
"Where do you think you're going?" asked my uncle as we started heading out the door.
"I have to take them home."
"Okay. You have 2 hours. Don't be any later then that or you'll be leaving tonight," he said sternly giving Brian and evil eye. Brian just looked away pretending not to notice, but I knew he did.
"Okay, U.K. See ya." I said practically pushing everyone out the door and running to the car. A little while later Brian and I were sitting on his bed talking.
"I'm going to miss you so much," I said laying my head down on his lap.
"I'm going to miss you, too. You have to promise to write and call, though, okay?" he said playing with my hair.
"I promise," I said sitting back up next to him. "I love you," I said pressing my lips against his.
"I love you, too," he said as I pushed him down on his back and climbed on top of him. He unbuttoned my shirt and threw it on the floor. Soon after, my bra followed. Someone knocked on the door.
"Dammit," I said rolling off of him and pulling my shirt back on. Once we were both back into our clothes, he opened the door. Erika stood on the other side with a worried look on her face.
"What's wrong?" I asked her.
"AJ and Jenn just told me and Nick something that I really need to know whether it's true or not. Are you and I really going back to Chicago tomorrow?" she asked walking into his room slowly.
"Yeah...I'm sorry, Erika."
"Oh my God. I'm never going to see Nick again, am I?" she asked sitting on the edge of his bed next to me.
"You'll see him again, I promise."
"I need to go tell him," she said getting up and running back out into the living room.
"Brian, I'd better go. We have to actually wake up tomorrow morning," I said standing up.
"No, you can't go," he said holding onto my hand.
"I have to, Brian. I don't have a choice. I already told you that."
"Just stay a little while longer. I just want you to hold me. You have almost a whole half an hour before you have to be back."
"Brian, even though I want you just as bad, if not worse, than you do, if we make love again, it's only going to make it harder to leave."
"I just want you to hold me," he repeated. I sat back down beside him and wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him gently. He laid down and I laid next to him. We just laid there in each others arms staring at each other. We talked, laughed, and kissed a little too. I wanted so bad for him to be with me all the time, but I knew that couldn't happen.
"Brian, I've gotta go," I said looking down at my watch.
"No please, stay," he said kissing me again.
"I can't, Brian."
"Oh okay...I'll come see you before you leave tomorrow, okay?" he said as I stood up and he stood up after me.
"You'd better!" I said kissing him again. "I love you Brian."
"I love you, too," he said as he leaned down and kissed me softly. "Goodnight sweetie."
"Night baby," I said kissing him yet another time before I left his room and walked into the living room. "Time to go, Erika," I said.
"Right now?" she whined. Brian came up behind me and wrapped his arms around me, resting his chin on my shoulder. I placed my hand on his cheek.
"Yeah, we have to go. U.K. already hates me."
"Alright." She took her 15 million years saying goodbye to Nick, then we each gave each of the guys a hug goodbye.
"I'll write to you!" said Jenn as she gave me a hug goodbye.
"You better!" I said as tears started to well up in my eyes. I hadn't known any of them for that long, but I loved each and every one of them, and I didn't want to have to leave. We were like one big happy family. After all our goodbye's were done and all the tears were shed, Nick, Erika, Brian, and I all walked out to the car.
"I love you and I'll see you tomorrow," said Brian kissing me one last time.
"I love you, too." I said before we drove out of the parking lot and down the road. Erika and I didn't say much to each other as we drove back to my uncle's house. Actually, we didn't say anything to each other. We were both off in our little worlds. When we got back to my uncle's house, I headed straight for my room and went right to bed. I didn't want to let anyone interupt my thoughts of Brian. Those three words that he had said to me rang through my ears all night. I cried myself to sleep.
