Chapter 20
"Uh, hey Brian."
"Kaitlyn?" he asked surprised.
"Yeah..." I said quietly.
"Kaitlyn! Hi! What's up? How's college life? Sorry I haven't called you I...I've been busy," he lied.
"College sucks! One of my professors has an enormous head! It's huge! You'd die laughing! Anyway, it's pretty okay, I guess. It's very hard. I'm thinking about transferring down there."
"REALLY? That's awesome! You should! Lord knows you should get away from the guy with the enormous head! We wouldn't want his head to knock into you and knock the wind out of you!" I bursted out laughing. This wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be! In fact, it was simple!
"I'm really thinking about it. I mean, it's not like I ever see my mom, anyway and that was the main reason I stayed here. She has a live-in boyfriend now."
"That's cool. You should move down here. We could move in together!" he said happily.
"Brian, reality check time, you have a girlfriend."
"Oh, that's right. I forgot."
"You forgot?"
"Yeah..." he said quietly.
"Brian, why are you with her if you can forget you even have her? That's not fair to either of you."
"It's just that- that I didn't know how to cope with you leaving and she was there. She helped me through it, and somehow she convinced me that I loved her. I really don't though, Kate. You don't understand how sad I've been lately. I'm so sorry that I haven't called or written to you in a while. She won't let me. She acts like my fucking mother. I'm just scared of being alone."
"Brian, if you really dislike her so much, then you should leave her."
"I miss you so much."
"I miss you too, Brian."
"Please move down here with me or at least promise that you'll think about it."
"I promise I'll think about it. A lot."
"So anyway, you probably have a boyfriend, right?"
"No way! Boys have cooties!"
"You didn't seem to think that I had cooties!"
"Well, not ALL guys have cooties...only the ones who live up here."
"Oh I see..."
"Yeah. Anyway, listen, I've gotta go, my phone bill is going to be so high! So I'll call you some other time, okay?"
"Hold on one second, okay?"
"Sure." He put the phone down, then about a minute later he picked the phone back up.
"Okay, I'm back."
"Okay. Crap, I have another call, will you hold on a second?"
"Sure."
"Thanks." I clicked over while rolling my eyes.
"Hello?"
"Hey baby!"
"Brian?"
"Yep! I called you on my cell so we could keep talking!"
"Oh! Okay!" Brian and I continued our conversation. It was just like it had been before. Just joking around with each other with a few moments of seriousness. I was so happy to be talking to him again. We started talking about our feelings for each other and I found out that he still loved me. I was overwhelmed to hear him say that. We talked for hours. I rolled over and looked at my clock.
"Holy crap, Brian! It's 3:00 in the morning!" I said yawning. "We've been talking for like 6 hours!"
"Damn that's a long time! Guess we had a lot of stuff to sort through, huh?"
"Yeah! I need to sleep, though. I have a class in like 5 hours."
"Oh...do you gotta go? Can't you like call in or something?"
"I'm sorry, I can't sweetie. I would, but I have this huge test tomorrow and I really need to be there when they review."
"It's not the guy with the enormous head, is it?"
"Yeah! Don't worry, though, I'll be okay!"
"Just try to dodge it if it starts heading for you."
"I will, Bri."
"There you are!" I heard someone yell from his side of the phone.
"Hold on," he said and put the phone down. "Hey Leighanne. How's it going?"
"Brian, where have you been? I've been looking for you all night. Who are you on the phone with?"
"My mom."
"Yeah, at 3:00 in the morning on a Monday? It's that slut girl, isn't it? What's her name? Kaitlyn?"
"Don't call her a slut, Leighanne. She's not a slut. I love her."
"YOU WHAT? What about me? Do I mean nothing to you? We've known each other forever and in total we've dated for like 2 years and you love some girl that you knew for like a week more then you love me? That's bullshit! You're just confused. You know you love me."
"Leighanne, just shut up and get out of my face."
"Is this slut girl brain washing you, too? Telling you what to say? Telling you to break up with me so she can have you back? Well guess what? She can have you. I don't need you anyway. You're pussy-whipped, aren't you? She fucks you and now you feel obligated to make something of it."
"Leighanne, I never want to see you again. Just get out of here. I should have listened to Nick when he told me not to go back with you. That you would do anything possible to hurt me, and you did Leighanne. Now isn't there someone else you can go bother?" Leighanne huffed, flipped her hair, turned around, and stomped her feet out of the room. Brian rolled his eyes and picked the phone back up.
"Sorry bout that sweetie. What were we talking about?"
"Brian, she is a bitch. You don't deserve to be treated like that."
"I know, but she's out of my life now. We don't need to worry about her anymore. Let's talk about us."
"Okay..."
"I want you to move in with me. Will you?" I paused for a minute. I had been thinking about this for about a month now. I just wanted to find a way out of Chicago. This is definitely what I wanted. I wanted to be with him, and with Erika, and Nick, and AJ, and Jenn, and Kevin, and Howie.
"Yeah, Brian. I will."
"You will?" he practically yelled.
"Yes, I will!"
"YES!!! I'm gonna fly up there today and help you pack, okay?"
"Wow, you're a fast mover, huh? Sure, that's cool. Do you wanna like stay here over night?"
"Yeah. I mean, if you have room."
"Of course I have room for you!"
"Cool! Okay, so call the school and have them transfer you to UCF, okay?"
"Sure thing boss. But, it'll have to be in like a couple of hours."
"Why?"
"Because it's 3:00, remember?"
"Oh yeah! Duh! Are you gonna go to classes today?"
"No, cause I'm gonna have to pick your ass up from the airport, aren't I?"
"Yeah! Okay. I'm gonna go so I can call and get a ticket up there. I'll call you when I find out whats going on, okay?"
"Of course that's okay! You're really excited about this, aren't you?"
"More then you know! I love you."
"Love you, too."
"Alright, I'll talk to you later."
"Okay. Night Brian."
"Goodnight." I hung up my phone and practically jumped off my bed and ran into Lillian's room. I jumped onto her bed and she woke up instantly.
"What the hell?" she asked as I jumped up and down in excitment.
"Guess what, guess what, guess what?"
"What?"
"I'm moving to Florida today or tomorrow."
"Wow! So I take it you 2 are back together."
"Yep! And you're going to get to meet him today and see how perfect he is!"
"He's coming here?"
"Yeah! He's gonna help me pack! I'm so happy!"
"I'm so happy for you! You're not gonna like forget about me, are you?"
"No way, Lil! Once I get all moved in I want you to come down and meet everyone. You'd love them all. They are the coolest people ever."
"Alright! I'll come see ya! I need to sleep right now, though."
"Oh yeah, sorry about that. Night.”
"Night," she said as I shut the door. I walked back into my room and laid down. I picked up the magazine from earlier and outlined Brian's face with my hand. I fell asleep with the magazine on my chest.
