At This Moment

I sat alone, watching the tide roll in, hitting the sand along the beach. I am lost in the way the moonlight reflects on the water. It takes me back to the night I first met him.

I was at the mall shopping when I noticed him, a few aisles away, with some friends. In an instant, we were eye to eye. There was such magic in that glance, and I knew he had felt it too.

After a few minutes of shopping, we bumped into each other in the shoe aisle.

"Hi," he smiled so great.

"Hey," I look down in embarrassment.

"So, what brings you to the mall today?"

"Just doing a little shopping for school. You?" I couldn't help but notice the way he smelled.

"Me too. Oh, I'm AJ. What's your name?"

"Oh, I'm sorry, Dawn. Nice to meet you AJ. Who are your friends?" I asked, trying to hide the fact that I wanted to know as much about him as possible.

"Oh, hey, this is Brian and Nick. This is Dawn," he says, turning towards them, smiling.

"We heard," Nick said, "How ya doin'?"

"Fine, you?" I ask, not taking my eyes from AJ.

"Oh, can't complain."

"Nice to meet you," Brian held out his hand.

"Hey, listen, we were about to go down to Mickey D's and get some lunch, would you like to join us?" AJ asked.

"Well, I was just about to head out, I am starving, so that would be great. Just let me pay for these first." I say, referring to the clothes draped over my right arm.

"Oh, yeah, me too. What do you say we meet you at the food court in twenty?"

"Okay, see you there," I say making my way to the cash register.

A few minutes later, we all met at the food court, and made our way to the parking lot. I watched them as they loaded into a Ford Expedition, and I followed them to McDonald's in my Lexus.

The afternoon was spent talking. It seemed we talked forever, like we had known each other for years.

As we were in the parking lot of McDonald's, Alex asked me if I would like to go out sometime, and asked for my number. After giving him my number and him giving me his cellphone number, we went our seperate ways.

We went out a few times, to various places. We would go dancing at the local clubs, to dinner, to play basketball at his house, but mainly we just spent most of the time talking.

I found out he is a wonderful person. We ended up together a lot, and before we knew it, we had been dating for seven months. He was a wonderful friend and a terrific lover. And then the day came, when I realized I had fallen in love with him. I didn't know how to tell him, and if I did, would it scare him? I didn't know what to do.

But, one day, I was out shopping for a birthday gift for him, when I saw my whole life come to a screeching halt. I was going thru the drive-thru at McDonald's when I saw him, sitting at a table eating with another girl. She was sitting right next to him, and he had his arm around her, feeding her fries.

Now, I didn't know what to think of this, I mean, I gave him some room for doubt. Maybe that was his sister or cousin, or just a friend. I parked my car where I could see a clear view of his Expedition, and waited for them to exit the restaurant.

When they finally came out the door, they were holding hands. Then he opened her door for her, kissing her before she stepped up into his car.

I wanted so bad to just go over there and give him a piece of my mind, but I decided to wait and see if he would tell me about her.....
