What's a Feis?

A feis (pronounced: fesh, plural: feisanna) is an Irish Dancing Competition. At Feisanna, dancers compete in Solo dances as well as Figure, or group, dances. Dancers are judged by adjucators, that have earned their ADCRG. There are five levels of competition in feisanna. They are:

  • Beginner
  • Novice: To be in Novice, a dancer must recieve 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place in a dance in Beginner.
  • Prizewinner: To be in Prizewinner, a dancer must recieve 1st place in a in Novice
  • Preliminary Championships: To be in Preliminary, a dancer must have all of his/her dances in Prizewinner and also recieve a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in a hardshoe dance and a softshoe dance in Prizewinner.
  • Open Championships: Open Championships is the highest level of Irish Dance. To be in Open, a dancer must be in Preliminary and receive two first places over the period of 1 year.

    At Feisanna, there is also other competitions. These may include traditional Irish music, Irish art, Irish singing, Recitations, and baking. There may also be a Ceili the night before.
