The Set Up

No the NPS is not reenacting the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima's Mt. Suribachi.  Although the as the park site was the location of a WWII  16" gun artillery battery there is an association with more contemporary history.   Among the interpertive signs, like those for aquatic mammals, is one for "Aircraft of the Pacific Fleet."  Featuring silhouettes of  F-14's, A-6's etc. they aid the visitor in identifing the planes flying in and out of the nearby Naval-Air Station.

It took some doing but we managed to find a place in the coutyard to set up the pavillion for the weekend.
