The Sorceress The maiden of magic returns for those of you Mage fans whom rely more on quick wits and strategies with magical elements rather than the brawny bulky Warriors with their steroid-enduced strength and shrunken.. well.. you get the idea. The Sorceress is the mistress of the elements with Hot, Cool and Shocking ways to end the lives of those that oppose her. Every single skill this woman has to offer aside from her three masteries result in direct assaults of the elements.
The elemental powers range in varied sizes of effect, damage amounts, and such but all revolves around fire, ice, and lightning. From Fireball to Ice Storm to Nova, the Sorceress definitely knows how to conjure up the spells with some dazzling eyecandy indeed. Don't expect her to last more than two rounds in hand-to-hand combat though.. she's physically weak but makes up for it greatly with her wisdom and magical powers. As does the Necromancer (read about him here) if you are wondering, but he has a few twists to get used to as opposed to the Sorceress, who is straightforward and fairly simple to become adjusted to.
So who is the Sorceress? Well she's sort-of the returning mage in terms of gameplay value. She's not your best fighter when it comes to beating some ass, but she does get her job done with other methods. Her magic makes up for her strength downfall as we just said, and her ability to take a punch though is none too high either so keeping some good armor on her or at a good distance from enemy attackers (or both would work too, just in case) but she's her goal is straight forward. Focus on raising levels early on when the monsters are weak and fairly easy to dispatch, build the levels or your skills and save gold for healing herbs and better protection.
How does she play? Very much like the Sorcerer of Diablo. She's the most difficult to get started with (aside from the Necromancer for newcomers to the genre) because she starts out a weakling, with hardly any of her real firepower known to her yet. Using the Elements can be a double edged sword as it will require you to know your enemies resistences fairly well but provide you with the most devastating damage impact. A Ice Storm may dispatch Zombies like nobody's business but if there is a monster group charging you and you think using the same skill on him and they are pretty resistant to Ice-based attacks, well.. best run for cover and choose your skill wisely. Many will find that focusing their points into one single tree will cut themselves short as well.. as there are spells like Meteor which just kick ass, but then there's skills like Nova that do the job well just the same and players will want both. I haven't toyed with the Sorceress much myself in my personal play-experience with the game, but I do have an idea of how things will be. Focusing on your skill trees and being forced into decisions is going to take some getting used to all around, especially when dealing with this nature-vixen, as she has some of the biggest choices to make of them all.
How about her special abilities? Well when you get passed some of the difficult choices you will have to make as a Sorceress you see that her skills as a whole, are nothing short of super. She is the most visually awe-inspiring mage of the game, with effects that will dazzle your eyes and ears, as well as the most powerful caster. The firey flames lick the flesh of the creatures in which she faces or explode right in their faces. The chilling blast of cold or sharp edge of a shard of ice frozen like a blade hailing down, or the jolting power of chained lightning lights up the screen in bright white heat.
