RETIREMENT
This page will cover my life since retirement.
When we left Las Vegas in 1981, we moved to a retirement and resort town in
the Ozarks. Mountain Home, Arkansas. At this time it was a sleepy small town, with ferry
boats to cross the lakes, no traffic signals, and a two lane highway through town.
Boy, how things have changed. We now have a beautiful College, a second Golf Course and
bridges across the lakes. When we got here, we found a place out east of town, which was 7
acres with a house and 2 mobile homes on it. We had both of our Mother's living with
us, so we gave them the house and we lived in one mobile while renting the other .
We lived there for 10 years.
During this time, we went into business with a still good friend,
Roger Richmond, and were very sucessful.Later, my wife and a friend from
Las Vegas, Samie Radley , opened
a Ladies Dress Shop on the square in town.I was also working with the
Sheriff's office and helping them in any way I could. Both my wife and I could not enjoy "retirement" as such
so we were always working,We sold the place, and moved into a large rental
house until we could build to meet our need, since both of our Mothers were still living with us.
We built a large home on the Golf Course where we each had a master bedroom
and our own private bathroom. It was nice, and we all enjoyed it so much, untill,
tragety struck my wife in the form of PARANEOPLASTIC MYELOPATHY and we neither one
could work again, as she became rapidly paralyzed, and I was home in the role of caretaker.
There went our life............you hear of things like that, but never think it will
happen to you.Now the Doctors and Hospitals have all our money, My wife's Mother
Virginia Bell (Tuckie) Walker died January of 1999, and my Mother (Eva Katnich Rodenbaugh)
is, as of this writing, December 2000, living in a nursing home in Barberton, Ohio. She will be
98 in February 2001
We are now trying to sell our house, as it is more than we can take care of any longer.
We can't say we haven't has a wonderful and exiting life, but are reluctant to
give it up so soon.I will add the URL to our house ad just in case you should know of
any one looking for a wonderful retirement home.

My wife was unlucky to be one of few known cases of Paraneoplastic Myelopathy,
and has been confined to a wheel chair since Sept. 1996, but has worked hard to maintain
he
ability to care for herself, although I am still needed to help with her independance,
I am not
completely tied down. Our goal now is to sell our home and find a smaller, easier
to care for place.
