TODAY'S WORD

It is said that the TRUTH is not always EASY or COMFORTABLE to swallow. It is a very fearful thing to lose your intimacy and passion for God. I don't want to hear My Saviour say when I stand before Him; " you're too late, I don't know who you are." How frightening that would be!

Simon Peter found himself distanced from Jesus; even though he thought he was walking close to Jesus. He ended up unprepared and for a while found himself lost in the fog of confusion and discouragement after Jesus was crucified. This is exactly what will happen if you are unprepared and follow Jesus at a distance.

My guess is that Simon Peter became fearful as Jesus was led away by the soldiers. His thoughts perhaps were along the line that he would suffer the same fate as His Lord. Fear in itself is a killer and a destroyer: a strongman spirit of the Devil. We must endeavor to stay close to Jesus so that we will never find ourselves losing our vision in the Lord. Peter had received a severe warning some time earlier. Jesus had discerned a devil present in Peter and had said that the crux of Peter's problem centered on where he had his mind fixed: Peter was more minded of earthly things than he was minded concerning the things of God. In short, Peter had a "love" problem, yet perhaps not yet a "love" problem, as Jesus had called it a mind (phroneo) problem around a year earlier. Mind problems can turn into love problems if they are not dealt with, as we are transformed by the renewing of our minds. Certainly, as man thinketh, so he is. Peter was too much minded about things concerning this present world and everything in it. This may have been a problem that endured all the way to this sudden onset of events that came with the arrest of Jesus. Jesus queried Peter later regarding all aspects of his love for Him. Sometimes, we can think that we have all the time in the world to correct some problem that Jesus puts His finger on, but then suddenly, we find ourselves in the press. Peter was suddenly thrust into a challenge of faith and his faith failed.

John on the other hand, did not allow the events that followed to rock his world. Events that can rock your world can happen in a mere moment of time. We should all determine in our hearts to be somewhat more like John and to follow his example more than the one set by Peter. John was prepared spiritually in his heart and remained with Jesus until the very end. The other disciples took off and went in the various directions, away from the Lord and the scene of the trouble. I hope and pray that none of us take off and go in the opposite direction whenever or if ever we are called by God to stand in the midst of a great trial of our faith.

It's no good shooting our mouths off, saying "I will lay my life down". like Simon Peter did. We have to be internally prepared. Bold statements, backed by nothing and that we cannot live up to will profit us nothing. Let no man think more highly of himself than he ought to. It's imperative that we always remain prepared and small in our eyes.

Roman's 8:5 says "For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit." It's makes me wonder sometimes whether or not I living up to this word? Am I chasing after the Spirit more than after my fleshly desires? Do I want and need God more than my need for anything else? We just cannot live a 'casual' Christian life. We must live one of 'consecration' and 'reverence' to the Holy Spirit. The question is this: are we laying ourselves on the altar of sacrifice? Are we creating a good enough atmosphere for miracles? We should remind God of His Covenant as we find it in His Word. He does say in His Word that we can put Him in remembrance.

We also need to be persistent in keeping our end of the Covenant. We might have slid back into the tendency to look at things from our human perspective, and not from God's perspective. Philippians 2:5+7 " Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus." This means that we ought to keep thinking like Jesus; constantly maintaining the right attitude within ourselves. We also have to be constantly emptying ourselves of ourselves.

Philippians 3, Verse 7, "But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likness,of men." The Word KENOSIS is the Greek word for "emptying" and when it is said that He made Himself of no reputation; it literally means He emptied Himself. Jesus actually emptied Himself of His Glory for one thing and was still able to maintain His God nature and attributes. He voluntarily submitted His will to the Father.

John 1:14 "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His Glory, the Glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." This was an attitude of humility displayed by Jesus and ought to characterize every believer. We ought to also remember to not only maintain a humble attitude, but a servant's attitude.

My prayer is that we will all take a moment to reflect upon the life that Jesus lived on this Earth as the Son of God and the Son of Man; prepared and ready for what is yet to come. Do not forget to do regular maintenance on your vessels, attitudes and spiritual preparations. It is time we take another look at ourselves to see if there is anything we need to let go off or change.

What is the aroma of our lives? How do we smell to Jesus when we fail to let go of the Old junk. We may not always be happy about giving up the junk, but the outcome is always good. So give it your best shot and watch God work on your behalf.
