I am reminded tonight of how this group got it's start and the mission statement the Lord gave me for it. It is not a focus on works but on passion for Jesus. From that passionate love for Christ springs forth the power to obey our Lord in all things. Lose that passionate fire and we can do nothing.

I perceive that I am under tremendous demonic assault, primarily in the mind and emotions, but also through illness in my body and in my household. The worst of it is a wave of weariness and discouragement, which I recognize as demonic, but still, it has been hard to shake off.

Time and experience in these things have taught me two things: 1) The way out is through praise, worship and devotion to Christ, and 2) Many of those who are with me and around me are going through the same thing. Attack comes at the same time to those who are in the sheep pen. Still, some who are with me will be strong now. You who are strong, I ask that you pray for those of us who are weary right now.

One thing I know to do when I feel overwhelmed is to seek for the rock that is higher than I. I go to the gospels, and fix my eyes on Jesus, who is the author and finisher of my faith. I know to search in the gospels and allow his word to heal me. The word of God is a medicine.

So, for an indeterminate time, my posts are going to take the form of devotionals. I'll begin tonight where the Lord led me to start: In Matthew, just after he came down from preaching the sermon on the mount.

Now, the first thing I note is something very obvious: That sermon was a "mountaintop experience" for the Lord. He too, had to come down. He could not always dwell on the mountain. So it is with us too. He came down with multitudes following him, and he meets a leper.

He meets a clear expression of faith from this leper, who has no reason for any optimism in this life. Certainly, it would have been better for this leper to have died than to have had to endure the life of loneliness and separation those people had to endure. There are fates worse than death. Yet still, somehow, this leper manages an expression of total childlike faith, which is met by our Lord with an instantaneous healing.

Next, our Lord meets a centurion: another outsider of the Kingdom..a Roman. This man makes an even greater expression of faith. He expresses a belief that Jesus can heal someone he has never seen with his eyes or touched with his hands. Jesus remarks in 8:10.."Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel."

Now, roll forward to the disciples: that's us folks..in that boat with Peter, James and John. There we are. Kristine, Laura, Alex, Sandy...yes me too. There we are in that boat and oh, the storm comes up and it is a hum dinger. Jesus is asleep in the back of our boat. 8:25.."Lord, save us: we perish. And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?

There we are folks: weak, weary, fearful. Forgive us Lord. Why aren't we like the leper and the Centurion? You've done some many more things for us than you have for them. You've provided more for us. We've seen you do more miracles than they have. And yet, they have more faith than we do. Why?

Because we have an enemy. And Daniel revealed that the fourth beast to walk the Earth would be given authority and have the ability to "wear out the Saints". That's us! That's why the new babies in Christ run circles around us. That's why we have to repent and do the first works...to get our first love, our baby love for Jesus back.

Oh Lord, revive us. Breathe new life into us Lord. Help us to be trusting and confident in you like that leper and that Centurion. Help my unbelief, oh Lord. In Jesus Name, Amen.
