Prophecy: The Headless Corpse

TODAY'S WORD THE HEADLESS CORPSE January 17, 2010 There are few things that can get me to squirming and feeling uncomfortable to the degree that any consideration of the subject of beheading does. First of all, most boys, whether they will admit it or not, have peered on in fascination as the tail of a lizard became separated from the body. The tail would continue twitching and moving from side to side, and we would watch and wonder. Later on, required readings of Dickens’ “Tale Of Two Cities” exposed us to the rigors of the French Revolution, where we encountered the guillotine. I recall watching a black and white movie version during Freshman English class where the beheadings were rather tastefully displayed, without all the blood and gore that we might expect Hollywood to deliver to us in a remake of the movie today. Now, please fast forward to the current computer generation. We have seen beheadings, done by Muslim terrorists, shown on Youtube, for all to see in full graphic and gory detail. This led me to the rather uncomfortable discovery that heads are still, even today, regularly separated from bodies in Saudi Arabia for a variety of offenses, including the renunciation of Islam. This is a totally uncomfortable reminder that the prophecies of the Revelation chapter 20 beheadings are almost certainly literal and still looming in the future. This method works like cervical dislocation. The goal is to quickly separate the spinal cord from the brain to provide a fast and humane death. Decapitation is used primarily for birds that are too large for cervical dislocation, such as geese, and sometimes for snakes. A recently killed snake may bite by reflex, so don't handle its head. Use a heavy knife, ax, hatchet, or bolt cutters to cut the spine of a bird at the base of the head. A long-handled shovel or hoe can be used for a snake. The same uncontrolled movement that is seen after cervical dislocation will follow decapitation. A goose might flop around for up to two minutes. That last line from the paragraph above takes me to the point where I will begin my present discussion. You see, a headless body of just about any animal will continue to twitch and flop around for several minutes. I recall a memory, from my childhood, when Grandma grabbed that chicken, rung it’s neck, chopped off it’s head and dropped both on the ground. The headless chicken got up and ran around the yard, then fell down, twitching uncontrollably on the ground for several minutes. Perhaps one or two of you are able to see where I am heading (ha!) with this. Please bear with the gory detail and the uncomfortable images, and continue on with me to my intended destination. Pauls letter to the Ephesians teaches us that we Christians are, in reality, ONE BODY. But, look carefully at what he wrote. On the Earth, we have no physical head. Our head is Christ. Look at the scriptures with me please, all from Ephesians: 1:22-And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church. 1:23-which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. Consider further, from the Ephesians letter, that we are and must always be joined together with our head, Christ Jesus: 2:4-6-But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive TOGETHER with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up TOGETHER, and made us sit TOGETHER in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. I have intentionally capitalized the three usages of “TOGETHER” so that you can see that the Holy Spirit was very much intent that we understand the message that we, as believers in Jesus Christ, are a headless body, here on the Earth. Everything that God has done has been done to us, for us and in us by means of dealing with us TOGETHER with Jesus Christ. With Him and from Him, life flows into our body, and we are a living body of Christ. We are a many membered body, a single body, but without Him, we are become a headless corpse. Paul teaches us further on that: 4:15-but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ 4:16-from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love. So, this process of “having a head” is something that we, as the body of Christ, are going to have to grow up into. It is not an automatic thing that has been fully accomplished by God. This will require obedience on our part. Paul wrote in his letter to the Colossians that: 2:18-Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together, by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God. And so, perhaps we need to obtain the more correct vision of just who and what we are from the scripture. We, the body of Christ, are not a fully formed body, here on the Earth. Perhaps you had, in your mind, the image of the body of a fully formed man, walking around on the Earth, when you previously dreamed about what the “body of Christ” might look like if you could see it. We are more to be likened to a headless body. The only way that anything good will flow to us, to our more distant body parts, through our joints and ligaments, and then through us and out to others is if we hold on to our head, and that head is CHRIST JESUS. Our head has gone on to heaven, where He is seated in heavenly places, and we, in our Spirit man, are seated there, together with Him, if we hold fast to the head, which is CHRIST. But, what happens if we let go; If we let go of Christ? What happens if we begin to walk around, in animated fashion, as a headless corpse? Is that not a frightening image? My mind turns to the image of the “headless horseman” from “The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow”, by Washington Irving. It is an image of horror: a ghastly specter that rightly has struck fear in the hearts and a chill in the bones of many a young reader. Perhaps you might remember how you felt, alone, on a dark night, as you walked out alone and had to deal with the thought of this possibility, however remote. Yes, it would be a horror to meet up with a headless horseman, but it would be an equally frightful event, perhaps even more frightful, to meet a headless corpse, face, as it were, to….face. We have met the headless corpse. God has even sent us a prophetic sign, a solemn warning through the activities our Christian youth. The current supernatural manifestations that have characterized the “movements” in Toronto, Pensacola, Lakeland and now Kansas City always carry with them involuntary jerking and twitching. Go take a look at the videos on youtube please. These body movements are a mimic of the movements of an animal or human body after it has been decapitated. Young people lie around in groups, sometimes standing, sometimes sitting. They sit motionless, and then suddenly, they begin to jerk and twitch violently. The cannot even continue standing in many cases, but fall to the ground, convulsed as it were and unable to control the experience or exit from it through their own efforts. God has sent us a powerful, visual sign in this that the body of Christ has become a headless corpse on the Earth. Can you hear what the Spirit is saying to the church? The name “Christian” was first given to disciples of Jesus Christ, at Antioch. The meaning of the word is this: “little Christs”. To be a Christian, truly a real Christian, you need to act like, and yes even look like Christ. People need to be able to discern that you “have been with Christ”. The behavior of the body needs to be a reminder of that ever present necessity. That behavior needs to be recognizable as something that the Master would have done. He, our Christ, needs to be visible, in us, and working through us. Our behavior needs to remind people of Jesus Christ. What do we see? We see a church, jerking and twitching, performing all of the autonomic reflexive muscle twitching that is totally identical to what we see when the head has been removed from the man. Jesus is giving us a visual sign that His body has now become a headless corpse. It is separated from Him from whom all life flows. Very soon now, it will fall over dead, lifeless and motionless, unless connection is restored, somehow miraculously, to the head. The other behaviors that we see: the laughing, the drunkenness, the animal noises and the like do not remind us of Jesus in the slightest. Can anyone build any type of a plausible case that Jesus Christ would have participated in any of these manifestations when He was on the Earth? No, I think not. It may not even dare to be uttered. He would have had nothing to do with all of it! When Christ returns, do you expect that He will join with you in your parties of jerking, twitching, laughing and howling at the moon? Think about it please! You who have been lying on the ground, jerking and twitching, and calling it the operation of the Holy Spirit….carefully consider your ways. God has been sending you a message. You have had your head, Christ Jesus, removed. Somehow, it has become detached. You have, as it were, paid a visit to the spiritual guillotine. You are now participating in the corporate manifestation of a lifeless corpse. Repent now before you lapse into utter, stone cold lifelessness from which no repentance may be expected or hoped for. This is the last urgent cry of the Father to you. Return now to Jesus Christ, who is your only head. Stephen L.
