The Chacoan White-headed tegu is one of the largest of the tegus, adults can exceed 20lbs. and be 4'+. Babies hatch out black and green, the green will fade to white at around 3 months. The white color increases and will be fully shown at sexual maturity. In captivity this tegu will feed on crickets, king mealworms, cockroaches, fruits and ground turkey. Adults will feed on mice and rats along with ground turkey meat and fruits. |
Housing should include a basking spot temp. of at least 90F and cooler area around 80F-85F. A large water bowl should be there every day with fresh water, a humidified hide box should be on the cooler end of the cage. The cage should be sprayed lightly with water every day. Substrates can include: cypress mulch and orchid bark.
