FGA/NGA Sponsored Bill Passes House Committee Today!

Tallahasse, Florida, (March 30, 2006): The Florida House of Representatives Business Regulation Committee today passed HB 1101 calling for “Equal Treatment under the Law “for all pari-mutuels. The Bill would establish a method for Greyhound Owners to negotiate a fair purse contract with arbitration and binding arbitration if needed.

HB 1101 was sponsored by Rep. Will Kendrick D-Carrabelle and co sponsored by Rep. Thad Altman R-Melbourne, Rep. Ron Greenstein D-Coconut Creek, Rep. Marcelo Llorente R- Miami, Rep. J.C. Planas R-Miami , Rep. Ari Porth D-Coral Springs, and Rep. Zapata R-Miami.

Rep. Kendrick represents and has visited the Farms in Lee, Florida.

The Bill passed 9 to 6.

All Florida Greyhound Tracks filed a request to speak against the Bill, but time ran out and the Committee Vice-Chairman Rep. Ken Gottlieb D-Miramar would not let them speak.

We have a long way to go and a lot of work to do but today the members of the Florida Greyhound Association (FGA) and the National Greyhound Association (NGA) beat the tracks in the first House Committee.

The Bill now goes to the Finance and Tax Committee and the Commerce Council.
