Keep The Promise to Pay Purses

Please find below a copy of Amendment 4 regarding the Slot Issue that passed in November, 2004. The Amendment only limited the “Tax Money” to go to Education. We all agree with that.

The MONEY that is left over after taxes will go to local governments, to the tracks and it should go the Purse Enhancement as the tracks' consultant promised in documents presented to the House Committee.

Let’s Keep the Promise of Amendment 4 and protect live greyhound racing. Good intent is not good enough in today's realistic world. The greyhound people have fought legislative good intentions for the past 14 years. The purses need to be addressed legislatively for the industry's protection. Remember "good intentions" never educated one child, put one slice of bread on anyone's table, or one gallon of gas in anyone's gas tank!

SLOT BILL - KEEP THE PROMISE

AMENDMENT 4
Official Title: Authorizes Miami-Dade and Broward County Voters to Approve Slot Machines in Pari-mutuel Facilities

Ballot Language: Authorizes Miami-Dade and Broward Counties Voters to hold referenda on whether to authorize slot machines in existing, licensed parimutuel facilities (thoroughbred and harness racing, greyhound racing, and jai alai) that have conducted live racing or games in that county during each of the last two calendar years before effective date of this amendment.

The Legislature may tax slot machine revenues, and any such taxes must supplement public education funding statewide. Requires implementing legislation.
