THE HOME STRETCH!

The Florida 2005 Legislative Session closes Friday, May 6. We are down to the wire but as experience has shown us over the years,"Anything is probable and possible!

At this posting, the chances of having a workable Slot Bill passed is doubtful. But it is the time to see what influnce is working and if anything materializes from this legislative session.

Purses for both dog and horse breeders have not been addressed as of yet. It is doubtful that a bill could survive without the backing of the entire pari-mutuals involved. History is a great teacher and the lesson all dog people should have learned over the years is "If you do not protect your OWN business and your position in the race, then you will never win the race!"

You are the star attractions at the tracks for the time being. No one comes to a track to just stare at a blank oval or a blank TV set. They come to bet on performances featuring your athletes. Weaken your importance and you might as well move on - because if your needs and concerns are not addressed legislatively, it will just be a matter of time before you and your stars will be just memories. We have backs SLOTS to enhance education with the promise of enhancing purses and survival - WE DID NOT BACK HAVING CASINOS!

Please remember, the issue is far from dead and far from over. Unfortunnately it has not been settled in this session. It will be interesting following the next steps taken by the tracks in Broward County. Also for the record, please remember this legislation failed to address the issues of purse enhancements for pari-mutuals.
