Governor-elect Charlie Crist named State Rep. Holly Benson as Secretary of the Department of Professional and Business Regulation (DPBR). The appointment was announced on Thursday, December 28, 2006.
The Department of Professional and Business Regulation (DPBR) is the Florida Department of State Government that overseas all pari-mutuel Regulation. The State of Florida does not have a Racing Commission.
Lt. Gov.-elect Jeff Kottkamp on Monday announced Larry Ringers of Fort Myers will be his chief of staff.
Ringers, a lawyer and longtime friend of Kottkamp's, will run the lieutenant governor's office when Gov.-elect Charlie Crist and Kottkamp take office Jan. 2.
''I could not be more pleased that Larry has decided to join the team and serve the state of Florida in this capacity,'' Kottkamp said in a release.
Ringers is a shareholder in the Henderson, Franklin law firm, where he's practiced for 18 years and where Kottkamp previously worked with him before the incoming lieutenant governor left for a different firm. Ringers is on the board of governors of The Florida Bar.
''I look forward to working with Lt. Governor-elect Kottkamp to implement the Crist/Kottkamp vision for a better Florida,'' Ringers said in a statement.
Kottkamp, as lieutenant governor, is likely to serve as chief lobbyist for the governor's agenda with the Legislature. Kottkamp cited Ringers' understanding of the legislative process as among his main attributes.
Ringers' biography from his law firm says he teaches Sunday school at St. Michael Lutheran Church and does volunteer work for the Animal Refuge Center and Habitat for Humanity.
He got his undergraduate degree from Florida State University and his law degree from Stetson University College of Law.
Ringers did not immediately return a phone message Monday evening.
