Vitamin D
Responsible for growth and maintenance of bones and teeth and helps to maintain a correct balance of phosphorous and calcium within the body.
Present in fish liver oils; however, foods which we normally consume contain very little vitamin D. For this reason, the milk manufacturers are required to add vitamin D to milk.
Excessive vitamin D can cause loss of appetite, thirst, diarrhea, and nausea; however, if recommended amounts (400 IU per day) are followed it is quite safe.
It is destroyed in the body by mineral oils.
