Weight loss or poor appetite

Weight loss commonly reported by people who are newly diagnosed with lupus. Weight loss and poor appetite can be caused by the illness itself or by some medications that may cause stomach upset or mouth sores (also called mouth ulcers).

If your doctor puts you on steroids, you usually gain weight. I personally took steroids for almost 3 years before I started to gain any weight back. At the present time I am taking 40mg of Prednisone daily and have been for months. I haven't been able to get below 10mg.

My doctors have been trying to to figure out how to lower the dosage of Prednisone. There are many side effects from taking any steroid for long periods of time.
