Close Encounters...Of Another Kind

Chapter 2

Molly was on her way to the hotel's restaurant to meet Sarah. When she arrived she saw Sarah waving her over. Molly's smile that she had on her face since she met Kevin changed to a happy grin. She walked over to Sarah and sat down in front of her, so that they faced each other.

"What have I missed?" Sarah wanted to know. "So did you already get to see one of 'em?" Of course she was talking about the Backstreet Boys.

"Better!" Molly said excitedly.

Sarah looked at her wide-eyed: "What?" She stressed the word.

Molly breathed in deeply, then stated: "I've talked to Kevin!"

"You did?! Wow!"

"And I've seen Brian and Howie - but only from a far!"

"Geez, that's not fair. I should've skipped my last class today..."

"Oh come on", Molly tried to cheer her up. "We still got so much time to spend here. We'll see them again!"

"Yeah, you're right. But if you were in my place you'd NEVER say that!" Sarah laughed.

"Of course I wouldn't! But YOUR first thought in the morning and the last in the evening is not AJ McLean. The birds YOU hear don't trill BSB songs. And YOU..."

"Alright, I got it!" Sarah smiled and put her hands up in defence. "And now you gotta tell me everything 'bout you and Kevin!"

"Ooh, I like how that sounds", Molly joked, "YOU and KEVIN!" The girls laughed. "You and AJ would sound a lot better though...", Molly sighed.

"Molly! Now stop that and tell me - what did you talk about?"

"Ok, well...I did as we planned and didn't let him know I knew who he was", Molly started. "First I saw the guys and Donna - well, only three of the guys, 'cause AJ and Nick were not with 'em - but they soon went to their rooms. I stayed in the lobby where I'd watched them to see if AJ might appear sooner or later. But suddenly Kevin came back. Then I followed him to the elevator and he kept the door open for me!"

"You're serious?! That's so cute. Perfect gentlemen! But...go on!"

"I started talking to him in German and he was...kinda surprised! I don't think he often meets girls my age who don't know he's a BSB!"

"Or PRETEND to don't know", Sarah giggled.

"He told me he couldn't speak German and that he thinks the fans are great and... That was it really. I was on our floor and had to get out."

"He told you that the fans are great?" Sarah asked irritated.

"Cause I asked him if he'd seen 'em and..."

"MOLLY!" Sarah interrupted. "What a dumb question!" She laughed.

"Oh thank you", Molly retorted sarcastically. "I just acted like he was any guest and like I wanted to know if he feels disturbed by them." Sarah was still laughing and Molly couldn't help but join her. "You're right - yeah, it was kinda dumb. But I had to think of ANYTHING and fast!"

"From that point of view...you could've asked something worse!"

"Like what?"

"What time is it?" The girls burst into laughter. "Or what about: How are you?"

"Can you tell me where the stairwell is?"

They were joking around for a while, then Molly was telling Sarah how she felt like getting a heart attack as soon as as she was out of Kevin's sight. Suddenly Sarah grabbed Molly's hand on the table and whispered: "Don't get another heart attack now!" Just as Molly was about to move her head, Sarah quickly added: "Don't turn around - they're looking our way!"

"What's going on? Who is it?" Molly asked.

"Frick and Frack alert!"

Molly tried to keep calm and just said: "I'll kill you if that's a joke!"

"Ok, wait, the waitress is coming this way. When I say 'Now' you can turn around and call her, then you can see them. They are now sitting behind you, only two tables away."

"This is the best day of my life so far", Molly smiled excitedly.

"NOW!" Sarah said.

Molly turned around and saw Nick and Brian sitting at another table, looking through the menu. She just starred at them, feeling like the happiest girl alive. At the same time that felt so strange 'cause damn, she thought, they are just ordinary guys. Known all over the world, but still - just guys. Why was she being so hyper about all this?

"The waitress", Sarah reminded her.

"I'm so lucky to have Sarah with me", Molly thought, "otherwise I'd make a complete fool out of myself." She almost couldn't take her eyes off of the two boys and it was a good thing that they were looking at the menus and not at her - she must have looked like a with fear paralyzed roe!

Molly called the waitress and she came over to their table. Both Sarah and Molly ordered Tortellini and something to drink. While they ordered, Sarah noticed Brian and Nick looking at them again. After she told Molly about that, she suddenly said: "I'm going over there right now!"

"And then what?" Molly asked shocked.

"I'll ask them what time it is", Sarah said dryly. Then she laughed out loud because of the expression on Molly's face the second before she realized that Sarah was only kidding.

"Damn, you should be an actress - you really know how to make people believe anything you say!" Molly said.

"So what, same thing with you, Molls!" Sarah smiled. "But...talking about making people believe something: what are we gonna tell the boys? I mean, why we are here?!"

"I know we forgot to plan something: the details!" Molly laughed. "But seriously, you're right! What are we doing here and why?"

"Oh heck, who cares?! We'll think of something when the time comes. IF the time comes..." Sarah saw Molly knitting her brows. "Come on, Molls, no need to be worried. Things will work out fine, just...roll with it, as the guys would say!"

"Sure. But I don't wanna make an idiot out of myself. And if I don't think about what to tell 'em I might end up saying such stupid things as I said to Kevin before."

"No, you won't! And I bet in your mind you've already experienced every possible situation with the boys, didn't you?! You knew what to tell AJ in your dreams, you'll know when you really meet him", Sarah cheered her up.

"Sarah!" Molly said grinning. "I can never ever tell AJ what I told him in my dreams..." Again bursts of laughter came from the girls' table, while they thought of the most stupid things to tell a Backstreet Boy.

Nick and Brian were the only ones that had decided to eat their meal down in the restaurant, while the others all ordered lunch by room service. Except for an older couple and two young ladies, the boys were the only guests in the restaurant. While they sat down and studied the menu card, their attention was again and again drawn to the two girls. They seemed to have a lot of fun because they were laughing all the time. Neither Brian nor Nick could hear their conversation, but they didn't get the feeling that the girls were talking about them. They often experienced that people were too shy to come over to them or were unsure if those boys really were members of the famous Backstreet Boys. So some people just obviously watched them a while and giggled around. The boys didn't mind that and they liked talking to the fans. But these two girls didn't seem to pay too much attention to them.

When suddenly the girls laughed out loud again, Brian couldn't help but laugh with them - it was contagious. That again made Nick giggle and soon all four of them were looking at each other and laughing their butts off - for no real reason!

The waitress came to bring the girls their ordered food and drinks. When she left, one girl, the blonde one, called over to them: "Hey, wollt ihr euch zu uns setzen?"

"Sorry, unfortunately I didn't understand a word. Do you speak English?" Brian replied.

"I asked if you wanna join us?!"

Nick and Brian looked at each other, shrugged their shoulders, walked over to the girls' table and sat down. The other girl introduced herself and her friend: "Hi! This is Sarah and I'm Molly!" She smiled at them.

"Hi, I'm B-RokŪ!" Brian said.

"And I'm Nick."

"B-RokŪ??" Sarah asked.

"My name's Brian", he explained, "but my friends call me B-RokŪ."

"Or Frick", Nick smiled.

"Yeah, and this guy" - Brian pointed at Nick - "is Frack!"

The girls grinned. Sarah then asked: "Where are you guys from?"

Nick and Brian glanced at each other. These girls didn't seem to know who they were, so they silently decided that first it should stay that way. "Uhm, we're from Florida", Nick answered.

"So are you here on vacation, or what?"

Brian hesitated with his answer, again glancing at Nick: "Well, not really...it's more business really. Work - but fun!"

"Whoa", Molly thought, "Sarah's playing this really good." Molly had lost her nervousness by now and her heart-beat slowed again (unless she was looking into one of the boys' eyes!). This was so unbelievable. It was too good to be true, but it was really happening.

"What about you two lovely ladies? What are you doing here?"

Molly's heart skipped a beat! Now what would they tell them?

"We're visiting friends!" she heard herself say.

"Where are you from?" Nick asked.

The girls were communicating with their eyes, so that they wouldn't talk at the same time and give away their little secret. It was Sarah's turn again: "We're from Munich."

"How long are you staying here in Cologne?"

"Just another two days, then we have to get back home."

"Hey, we'll be in Munich in less than a week's time", Brian told them. "Maybe we'll meet again!"

Sarah looked slightly shocked. She hoped Brian wouldn't ask any questions about Munich because the last time she had been there was when she was 14 - which was five years ago! She didn't remember too much about her little weekend trip with her parents.

Fortunately the waitress came to take the boys' orders, so Sarah could get off the subject. Instead she questioned the boys: "How old are you guys?"

They talked for another hour, eating their meals and having a laugh. The girls were surprised about how well they got along with the boys and how down-to-earth they were. They didn't talk about the band at all. Instead they shared funny stories about holidays, embarrassing moments and even their childhood.

"Sorry, but we gotta go now", Brian then said. "Business!"

"If you have no plans for tonight, you could join us", Nick suggested. "We wanna go to a club. Maybe you know a good place to go to?!"

"Yeah, we do know a great club", Sarah answered.

"And we have no plans for tonight - well, we HAD no plans!" Molly smiled.

The girls told them their room number and Brian promised to call as soon as they get back to the hotel. Together they left the restaurant through the back entrance (Nick and Brian had led the way because they didn't want to meet fans in the lobby) and headed back to their rooms.

AJ had decided to search for Nick and Brian. Kevin and Donna were still discussing something about the Boys' schedule (which they had done for about an hour, AJ thought frustratedly) and Howie was getting ready for the interview later. AJ was bored and he thought he might even see that girl from the elevator again, so he went to the restaurant in search for his friends.

Just as he arrived a girl came over to him and asked him to sign a picture of himself. She told him she was a big fan, and of course he took the time to sign the picture. AJ asked her if she would be at the "Charity"-show tomorrow, where the BSB would perform and she said she'd be there. Her eyes sparkled when he told her he would be watching out for her. She took the picture again and left him alone.

Now AJ finally had the time to look around through the restaurant. He noticed some business man and...HER. He only saw her shortly, when she went around a corner, but was sure it was the same girl he had already seen that day. He wanted to follow her, but the fan from before came back with an older woman (most likely her mother) to ask if she could also take a picture with AJ. Of course she could.

Oh, why did there have to be two entrances to the restaurant? She had disappeared again...
