**Static** “Hey! This is Araysa and you are listening to today’s hot hits on the ZOO, Z101.3 Orlando.” **Backstreet Boys “Larger Than Life” began to play on the radio.**
I thought to myself, “Who is that?” I had never heard her before. The ZOO must have gotten a new DJ since last time I had been home. She had the most beautiful voice I had ever heard.
“Nick!! Get down here and help Aaron with the dishes!” I heard mom yelling from downstairs.
“Augh! But Mom!!” I whined.
“Just because you are a Backstreet Boy doesn’t mean you can’t do the dishes.” She snapped back. She always used that line on me for one thing or another. I decided not to argue and help the little man with the dishes. As soon as I got in the kitchen I turned the radio on. Our song had just gotten over.
“That was the Backstreet Boy’s with “Larger Than Life”. Has everyone seen that new Blink 182 video where they make fun of the Backstreet Boys? I think it’s hilarious! Call me and let me know what you think 555-2468.” WOW!! I loved that voice. I stood in awe, looking at the radio.
“Ooo, Nicky’s in love!!” Aaron joked. I rolled up the towel and snapped him with it. Aaron grabbed another towel and we started running around the house, snapping each other with towels. By the time my mom stopped us we both had welts up and down our arms and legs. We finished the dishes and I went to my room and called Brian.
“Yo B! You gotta listen to the ZOO man. There is this new girl on there and DAMN, she has a sexy voice. I wanna meet her.”
“Let’s go! I’m not doing anything right now.”
“Rok, you serious? You would take me down there?”
“Yeah Frack! Anyway, all the little teenyboppers listening to the radio will be happy to hear us on there live.” Brian laughed.
“Come get me!” I said with a big grin on my face.
“I’m on my way.” Brian said as he hung up the phone.
I changed my clothes; I wanted to look good for her. I just hoped and prayed that her face would be as beautiful as her voice. Brian got to my house about 20 minutes after I called him. I ran out to the car and jumped in the passenger seat.
“Look at you! WHOA…did you put the whole bottle of cologne on or what?” Brian asked.
“No! I just wanna look and smell good for her.” I replied with a silly grin.
It took us about 15 minutes to get to the radio station. We pulled into the parking lot and my heart began to race. We got out of the car and walked into the building, I was sweating like mad. The lady at the desk recognized us right away.
“Hey guys! What are you doing here?” she asked
“Oh, nothing. Just thought we would stop by and make a surprise appearance.” I said as I elbowed Brian so he wouldn’t say anything about the DJ.
“Yep, appearance!” Brian said.
“You know the way back, I will let her know you are on your way back so she can clear some air time for y’all.”
“Thanks!” Brian said as we walked down the long hall to the DJ booth. I saw her through the glass. I stopped; I couldn’t move any further. I tried but my legs weren’t budging. I had never felt this way before.
“What’s wrong Nick?” Brian said with a concerned look.
“Look at her B. She’s gorgeous. I’m not going to be able to talk and if I do I am going to sound like a dumb ass.” I said in a quiet voice.
“So, what makes this different from every other time you talk?” Brian said as he busted out in laughter.
“Shut-up!” I punched Brian in the arm. He then opened the door and pulled me into the room.
“Hey guys! Have a seat. I will be with you in a moment, the song is almost over.” She said. It felt like my heart was going to jump right out of my chest onto the floor.
