Untitled Chapter One

“Quick they are going into the right lane!!” Mandy said as she pointed at two motorcoaches in front of us.

“I know, I see them. Hold on to your seats, here we go!!” I said as I yanked the car across three lanes of traffic.

My best friend Mandy and I, that would be me, Araysa, had just got done seeing the Backstreet Boys in concert for the second time in Madison, WI. We were now on a mission to see if we could follow the buses and where they would go. We were driving around when we saw two distinct black and gold motorcoaches turn onto the highway that takes you out to the interstate. Soon we were in hot pursuit. I approached behind the back of one of the buses and stayed in that lane just watching for what they would do next. Soon, we saw a sign for the exit to I90E to Milwaukee. As soon as we passed the sign the buses put on their right blinkers. I flipped on my right blinker and followed the buses on the exit to the interstate. I was so glad that it was 11:00pm because there were hardly any cars on the road, which made it easier to keep watch on the buses but not be on their asses the whole time.

“I can’t believe that we are doing this. I mean we should be going home and going to classes tomorrow but here we are. What are we doing??” I said to Mandy.

“I know what you mean, my parents would kill me if they knew that I was wasting their money for college by following around the Backstreet Boys.” Mandy said with a laugh.

“Let’s not think about that though. Let’s think about meeting the Backstreet Boys. We did it in Minneapolis and we are going to do it in Milwaukee or before whichever comes first. I mean they have to stop for gas sometime don’t they? And since I didn’t get to meet Nick in Minneapolis and you got to meet your precious Brian, I’m going to meet Nick if it kills me.” I stated.

“You will meet Nick, I can feel it. We’ve already gotten this far. We are right behind their buses. They are right in there.” Mandy said as she pointed at the bus in front of us.

I looked at the bus in front of us and realized that Mandy was right. The Backstreet Boys were right in those buses ahead of us. As I looked at the buses I wondered which ones were in which. Was Nick in the one right ahead of us or not? What are they doing in there? Sleeping, talking, or playing videos games? Just as quickly as I started to daydream I snapped out of it because the buses put on their right blinkers and were making an exit off of the interstate. To where I wasn’t quite sure.

“What’s going on?” I asked Mandy

“We just passed a rest stop sign, so maybe, just maybe that’s where we are heading.” Mandy said with a huge grin on her face.

We pulled into the rest stop right behind the buses. We then came to the fork in the road where the buses and trucks go one way and the cars go the other. Since we didn’t want it to look like we were completely following them we parked in the car area. As soon as the car was stopped we decided to go in and take the opportunity to use the facilities as well. When we were done Mandy and I came out of the bathroom and there standing at the map was none other than Kevin and Howie with their bodyguards. We looked at each other with a look of what to do. Neither of us had actually contemplated what we were going to do if we saw them. The last time we met them was easy because it was in their hotel lobby not a lone rest stop on the interstate. Plus, Kevin’s bodyguard isn’t the happiest of people so we didn’t know if they would like us bothering the guys or not.

“Well, it’s now or never.” I whispered to Mandy.

I looked at the guys again and at that same time Howie looked over at me and smiled. I couldn’t help but smile back. Of course that was a dead giveaway what Mandy and I were talking about. I looked back at Mandy and gave her a let’s-go-and-do-this look. We both walked over to the guys. By the time we got to them they had stopped talking and were looking in our direction.

“Hi, we are really sorry to bother you right now but it’s not too late for an autograph or maybe a little bit of conversation?” I asked both Howie and Kevin.

Kevin looked over at his bodyguard with a questioning look. The bodyguard looked over at us and finally realized that we were not going to freak out or anything. Kevin’s bodyguard nodded and then continued his conversation with Howie’s bodyguard.

“No, it’s never to late.” Kevin said with a smile.

“So, did you guys just come from the concert?” Howie asked.

“Yea, we did.” Mandy said, “It was great!!”

“This is our second concert of yours actually. We saw you in Minneapolis about a month ago. And I’m sure you don’t remember, but we met you guys there at your hotel both after the concert and before you guys went to the Vikings/Bears game.” I told them.

“Well, aren’t you lucky girls. I’m really sorry but I don’t remember.” Kevin said.

He looked at Howie and he just nodded no.

“That’s okay, we wouldn’t expect you guys to remember us.” Mandy said.

“By the way, we haven’t been properly introduced. I’m Kevin Richardson.”

“And I’m Howie Dorough.”

“I know it’s impolite to tell somebody that they know who you are already but we know you guys silly!” I said with laughter.

“I know, we just thought we would be gentlemen, I’m sorry miss I didn’t catch your name.” Howie said with a wicked grin.

“Oh, I am sorry. My name is Araysa Ashmore.”

“And my name is Mandy Constancio.”

We all shook hands and continued talking for few minutes when all of a sudden AJ walked in the door. He was just about to go into the men’s room when he spotted our group and came over to see what was going on.

“Hey D, hey Kev. What’s up?” Aj asked, “And who are these fine ladies you have here? Can’t go anywhere without you guys getting the girls first.” Aj said with a laugh.

“Whatever, Mr. Flirt. This is Araysa, and this is Mandy.” Kevin said motioning to us.

“Hello Araysa, what a beautiful name. Hello Mandy, not as beautiful of a name but the face makes up for that.” Aj said as he kissed both of our hands.

“Umm...you said something about Howie and Kevin getting the girls first.” Mandy said as I pretended to faint.

We all laughed at that. Then Brian came in. I looked over at Mandy and realized that she really was going to faint. I looked at her mouthed, “Don’t cry Mandy, don’t cry.” She looked at me and just nodded.

“Hey Rok, look who we have here.” AJ said waving him over.

“Hey, girls how are you?” Brian said with a goofy grin.

“We are just fine, aren’t we Mandy?”

“Yea, we are just fine...”

Mandy sort of had a glazed look and a stupid grin plastered across her face. I elbowed her to wake up from her daze. See, as all BSB fans go we both had our favorite. Her’s was obviously Brian. Mine however is Nick and once again just like Minneapolis he was nowhere to be found. I wasn’t going to let it go, I needed to know where he was.

“Ummm....where’s Nick?” I asked.

“Nick...is still in the bus playing that stupid Nintendo. I swear that kid is going to get the biggest bugged out eyes I have ever seen.” Brian said.

“Oh....do you think that he is going to come out?” I asked further.

“I don’t know, why do you ask?” Kevin asked me.

“Okay, okay, I confess. He’s my favorite.” I said as I threw my hands in the air.

“Uh huh, that’s what I thought” Kevin said with a grin.

“Come on let’s go see if he will come out of his hole.” Brian said taking both of your hands.

We all walked out to the bus and stopped at the door. The driver opened it and Brian got on. He then turned around for a second.

“Wait here, I’ll go see if he will take any visitors.” Brian said.

He then went inside the bus.

“Okay, that made him sound like a hospital case.” Mandy observed.

I just shrugged my shoulders. I could barely contain my excitement. Mandy has now gotten to meet her favorite twice and here I was maybe going to be able to meet my favorite for the first time. Just then Brian came back to the door of the bus. He smiled big and motioned for us to come on. He took each of our hands at we stepped up on the bus.

“Don’t mind the mess, remember Nick’s nickname is Kaos.” Brian stated as he kicked a dirty sock under the table.

“Oh, that’s okay. It reminds of Araysa’s side of the dorm room.” Mandy said with a laugh as we passed a pile of clothes.

I shot her a dirty look but I restrained myself from saying anything. I figured that this wouldn’t be the best time to freely use the F-word. We walked all the way to the back of the bus to the sound of a very heated video game under way. Brian opened the door and I was greeted with the best site in the whole world. Nick Carter!!
