Epilogue

Alyson had an amused smile on her face, as the sound of Wham!'s "Last Christmas" quietly filled the room. "You know", Alyson whispered, "some day she's gonna hate that song!"
AJ just smiled back at her, leading her out of the room, where their three month old daughter Jade was falling asleep to the music. "What are you talking about - she loves the song!"
"She just can't protest yet", Alyson joked. "It would really be enough if you played it to her when it's actually Christmas." It would always make her laugh to remember how AJ had been playing the song to the baby, even when Jade hadn't been born. He used to put headphones over Alyson's belly and play the song, or sing it himself, to the baby in her womb.
AJ gently put his arms around his wife and began to sing the song to her, while swaying along to the melody. Alyson grinned at him. "See", AJ smiled. "You can listen to it anytime, too."
"That's just because it's our song, babe", Alyson laughed. "It means memories..."
"It's her song as well", AJ replied, referring to their little baby girl. "We made love to that song when our little wonder happened."
"We made love a lot last summer", she smiled, "but I'm sure that it was that special night..."
AJ of course noticed the teasing tone in her voice, but he didn't mind. He knew she liked to tease him about it, but AJ was so sure that it had happened in that special night, a year ago, when he had surprised her with a way too early Christmas dinner. He smiled at Alyson, before leaning in for a deep kiss. He was amazed at how just kissing her still let butterflies go wild in his stomach and how the love he felt for her only got stronger by each passing day.
"Two years ago, did you believe we would be here like this?" he asked, as they broke the kiss.
"I didn't actually envisage us married and with a child back then, but" - she looked into his affectionate eyes, returning the tenderness in them - "I knew I would still love you and you would still love me."
"I was never really sure about when you started believing me", AJ admitted. "But I can't even tell you how glad I am that you hung in there long enough to find out I was serious!"
"When we hit the ice", Alyson smiled.
"What?" AJ asked confused.
"I believed you when we hit the ice", Alyson replied. "When we were ice-skating and fell. Don't ask me why. It wasn't really anything we said, it was just...everything we felt. I think I've never felt that carefree in my life as in the moment back then. Suddenly I had no worries at all, no doubts, no fear. I just knew you'd be there, to catch me like you did and keep me safe from harm, no matter what would happen to us."
AJ gently caressed her face and earnestly asked: "Did I? Did I keep you safe and loved? Was I around always?"
Alyson's face glowed as she smiled up at him. "You've been there whenever it was important. And you always let me know you've been thinking of me, even when you couldn't be around." She kissed his lips softly. "Don't you worry 'bout a thing. You and Jade are the very best things that ever happened to me. I could've never asked for a better man than the one that came back to me two years ago, in a snowy nice town in Canada..."
"That was the best decision I ever made. I was so sure you would be the one!"
They kissed again, and AJ pulled Alyson close to him. Tenderly, but firmly holding her, as he had always done.
"It's funny in a way, that the lyrics of our song don't fit to describe us at all", Alyson smiled afterwards. "Cause I'll never regret that I gave you my heart at Christmas, and I sure won't give it to someone else."
