In celebration of the one-year anniversary of the world's best-selling trading card game, Wizards of the Coast Inc. will release Base Set 2TM, a selection of cards from both the original PokémonTM* trading card game's Base Set and the popular JungleTM expansion set. These game cards, including the highly sought-after Charizard and Blastoise cards, make up this new set of 130 cards bearing the Base Set 2 symbol.

Including an instructional CD-ROM ($14.99), or CD-ROM and video ($16.99), the two-player Starter Set from Base Set 2 is a perfect starting point for anyone wanting to learn to play the Pokémon trading card game. For more advanced players, four all-new preconstructed theme decks (MSRP $9.99 each) are ready for action: "Lightning Bug," "Grass Chopper," "Hot Water" and "Pysch Out." Also, randomized 11-card booster packs (MSRP $3.29) will be available for Pokémon trainers who wish to construct their own decks for game play.

"The release of Base Set 2 is the perfect way to celebrate the one-year anniversary and phenomenal success of this game," said Carole Pucik, brand manager for the Pokémon trading card game. "Not only is it another opportunity to catch the highly coveted Charizard game card, but the new instructional CD-ROM, video and new rulebooks will help Pokémon trainers jump right into game play."

Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro Inc. (NYSE:HAS), will preview Base Set 2 in the "Sneak Pikachu" runway event hosted by Hasbro at this year's International Toy Fair (New York City, February 13 - 17, 2000). Base Set 2 is expected to be in stores February 28.

The Pokémon trading card game continues to sell out all around the country. Since its debut in January 1999, millions of copies of the game have been sold in North America. The goal of the trading card game is to collect, trade, train and battle various monsters in an effort to become the world's greatest Pokémon trainer. The trading card game is an integral part of the Pokémon phenomenon that includes Game Boy® cartridge games, the number-one rated children's program, comic books and an assortment of toys.
