Pokémon Gold And Silver!!!

Rumors say that this game will have over 250 monsters, each having their own gender. This may mean that there would actually be about 500 Pokémon to catch, if you want both male and female versions of each Pokémon!! Along with new Pokémon, new attacks and abilities will also be included in these games. The screen images of battles are breathtaking, the monsters more realistic and detailed, no more pixilated Pokémon! They will be diurnal and nocturnal, meaning you'd actually have to wait for them to wake up at a certain time of day for them to appear. Also, the world of Pokémon has been reportedly extended by about 4 cities. This may mean 4 new badges, maybe even more that just the Elite Four?!

You may be wondering what all of these changes actually mean, well I'll try to explain. Since the Pokémon can be nocturnal or diurnal, this means the game will have a clock or timer to keep track of this. You will be able to see the time in the new updated Pokédex! Nintendo may also be planning for the game to be released for the Gameboy Color. There are also rumors of new modes of transportation such as a skateboard in addition to the bicycle we all came to know and love in the Red and Blue versions. You are supposed to be able to use the skateboard to move faster than on bike and reach new places. A new (female) trainer is also supposed to be available instead of having to be Ash......Misty hopefully??? Because the Pokémon in this game are specific genders, they will be able to mate and make babies! All Pokémon that appear in Gold and Silver are classified into male and female, just as the case of Nidoran in Red and Blue. Pokémon cannot be crossbred (aka no Mewtwos making sweet love to a Charizard). Babies are made by laying a "Poké-Egg" if they are same species. The biggest surprise of all is that Pokémon may evolve in the Gold and Silver versions even if they were thought to have been at their final evolution or Red and Blue Versions (i.e. Raichu, Raticate, Fearow, etc.)!

There is a problem though. The older versions of Pokémon will NOT be able to read the data of the new monsters of Gold and Silver (i.e. You can't trade new Pokémon to the old versions). The good news is, however, you WILL be able to send your monster data to the new version from your old games! The graphics seem great and expect the game play to be even better. The planned release of this game has been repeatedly put off in Japan, so I cannot give a confirmed date of release....but hope to see it here in the states sometime in the year 2000.

So What Is New About Pokémon Gold And Silver? Pokémon Gold & Silver has over 100 new Pokémon in total. Not only that, but most Pokémon will be either Male or Female (sometimes having their own pictures in the Pokédex) So, what else is new?

Backpack - Your Backpack is divided into 4 different pockets separating your Pokéballs, Pokémon healing items, TMs & HMs, and more.

Pokégear - Uses 'cards' to display information throughout the game. You start out with a Map, Watch, Cell Phone, and Radio.

Types - Two new types, "Evil" and "Steel"

Evolutions - Pokémon from Red/Blue/Yellow (RBY) that have thought to stop evolution may evolve into something new. For example, Chansey evolves into Hapinasu. Also some Pokémon fromRBY have pre-evolutions, like Pikachu and Jigglypuff.

Pokédex - The Pokédex has changed slightly, it is now black like the Pinball Pokédex, with Pokémon Area, Cry, and Print options.

Stat Screens - When you view your Pokémon's stats you will get to look at three screens instead of two like in RBY. The first screen has your Pokémon's HP and EXP Points needed to gain a level. The second screen has your Pokémon's Attacks and Abilities and how much PP each one has. The third screen has your Pokémon's ID No., original Trainer, and its Attack, Defense, Hit Points, Speed, and Special totals.

Rival - Your Rival is even more evil than Gary ever was. Your Rival steals one of Professor Utsugi's remaining two Pokémon. You'll see him later in the game.

Eternal Clock - At the beginning, when you first start your game you have to set the clock according to what time it is in Real Life. Now when it is day-time in Real Life it will be day-time in your Game. So what? Well only certain Pokémon will appear during the day, and during the night. So you'll have to play your game during the day and during the night.

New Towns - You start in Wakaba Town. All of the Gold & Silver towns are located West of the original RBY towns, which you can explore later in the game after beating it.

New Gym Leaders - The first Gym Leader you encounter is a bird trainer. His name is Hayato. The following Leaders are: Tsukushi, Akane, Matsuba, Shijima, Mikan, Yanagi and Ibuki.

Trading - You can trade all your favorite RBY Pokémon to Gold or Silver but you cannot trade Pokémon from Gold or Silver to RBY.

Eggs - You can take your Pokemon to a Breeding and Daycare center south of Kogene City. If you put in a male and female Pokemon of the same type and walk around for a bit, when you return and see the Owner of the center outside with the Pokemon it means they laid an egg.
