Presea's Trilogy
Part Three: Awakening

******

Everything was fuzzy when Braden opened his eyes. He blinked a few times. He immediately recognized where he was. He was in the throne room… and chained to the wall. Braden had a huge headache from where he had been hit. The room seemed very cold and very evil. Braden could hear voices coming closer to him. Then Zagro appeared. "Good morning Braden. Did you have a peaceful sleep?" "Oh yeah. I was ever so comfortable," smirked Braden. "Oh good." "If you don't mind me asking though… what's going on here? Why would you want Questria? It's nothing compared to some of the other kingdoms!" Zagro laughed. "It's not I who wanted to take over Questria. I was just the help. No, Braden, the one who took over Questria is none other than…" "Zagro!" came an all too familiar voice. Braden's mouth dropped open as a figure, clad in black robes appeared in front of him. Braden was shocked as questions of why raced through his mind. Standing imperiously in front of Braden was none other than his older brother, Tristan. "Tristan! What is the meaning of this?" "Oh Braden. So glad you could drop by." "I don't understand… why did you do this?" "Think about it Braden." Braden was silent with fury for a moment. "So that was it… that's why you always were sneaking off!" "Congratulations Braden. You know my little secret." "But you were going to get the kingdom one day!" "One day… Braden you are a stupid boy. You know nothing. The only thing that helped you out of your rut was when you met Presea… Presea," the name fell from Tristan's lips and he thought about her for a moment. "Braden… where is she?" "What? I don't know what you're talking about." "Oh you know. You know all too well. Where is Presea?" "Why Presea?" "Stupid fool! You love her don't you? You wouldn't tell me anything because you want to protect her! Well I don't need your help. I'll find her myself." Tristan turned and began to walk out. "No Tristan wait!" "What do you want?" Braden took a deep breath. "Presea's dead." Tristan looked him in the eye. "You're lying." "No… she died on the night you took over the castle." "That… can't be." "It's true. I'm sorry." Braden prayed that his words were convincing enough. Tristan took a sharp breath. "Come on Zagro. We have some business to attend to. Leave my little brother here. Let him rot." Then they both disappeared. Braden sighed. It appeared that Tristan knew a bit of magic. It was going to take a miracle to save the kingdom.
Hours passed. Braden still hung on the wall. He watched as Tristan, Zagro, and the guards planned ways to take over other kingdoms. Braden was drifting off to sleep when he heard a soft scratching next to him. He looked down. Someone… or something was behind the wall. Suddenly a piece of the wall broke open. Tristan and Zagro were too absorbed in their plans to notice. Braden looked questioningly at the hole in the wall… and suddenly Presea came though, followed by none other than Rogue. "Presea," he whispered. "What are you doing here?" "Saving your ass," she replied as she started working on the chains at his feet. "I didn't need you to do this," he muttered. "Yes you did. You'd have been stuck here forever if we didn't show up." "We?" "I've got the whole Society here. My group is behind the wall. Dylan's group should be outside the doors, followed by Stephen and Terria's group." "Well then hurry with the chains. We have to get out of here before Tristan…" "Notices you?" said Tristan. Presea turned sharply. "Dead Braden? Well it seems to me that Presea is quite alive." "Tristan," spat Presea. "I always thought you were a rat. I never thought that you'd sink so low as to kill your father and capture your own brother!" "Presea… it's been a while." "Not long enough." Tristan smiled charmingly. "I'm so happy that you've returned." "Save it. I'm not interested." Tristan walked up to Presea and touched her cheek. "Oh, but you should be." "Attack!" screamed Presea, and suddenly the Underground Society poured in through the doors and the wall. Tristan was knocked away from Presea. Zagro waved his hand and an evil army appeared. The battle was raging. Presea turned back to Braden. "All right I'm getting you out." She drew her sword and swung at the chains. They broke, and Braden fell off the wall. Tristan screamed at Zagro. "Well it appears that your little assassin was beaten. You can see clearly that my brother lives!" "Oh shut up!" shouted Zagro. Presea and Braden joined the fight. The Underground Society was indeed one of the strongest groups of people in Cephiro. They all fought with strength and stealth. It was obvious that the Underground Society would soon overcome Zagro's dark army. Zagro began to open a portal. "Hey where are you going?" shouted Tristan. "Away from you. We're getting beaten by your brother and his friends. I don't need to stick around for defeat. You're on your own!" and with that, Zagro stepped into the portal and disappeared. Tristan was shocked… "No this can't be!" He ran through the fighting people and out of the throne room. Presea saw him go. "Braden, you and the Society keep battling." She started running to the doors of the throne room. "Where are you going?" "I have a score to settle…"
Presea ran through the twisting hallways of the castle that she once called home. Tristan was nowhere to be found. There was only one place left to check… the great tower. Presea had never liked going up the tower. Her fear of heights had always stopped her. But now there was no time for fear. Presea entered the tower and began to run up the winding steps. The only light came in from the glass windows, and even that light was dim. The sky outside was overcast, and Presea was sure that it was going to storm. She neared the top. There was a door, surrounded by glass windows, leading out to a somewhat large balcony. Presea peered out the door. She knew that she was at least seventy feet high. That thought made her shudder. "Oh Tristan," she muttered. "Come out come out wherever you are…" Suddenly there was a blast of pressure, which sent Presea flying into the glass window. It shattered into millions of pieces, and left Presea sprawled on the balcony. She sat up slowly, in shock. Then Tristan appeared. Presea ignored the stinging of about ten fresh cuts from the glass, and stood up. She swung her sword. "All right Tristan. I've come here to talk with you. I don't want to fight with you anymore." His eyes were dark as he lifted his hand and blasted Presea into the concrete parapet. Then he was in front of her. "Presea… All of these years I have admired you. Everything about you. And I tried to show you how much I cared. But how do you repay me? You turn your head at the sight of me. And then just to spite me, you fall in love with my brother!" "What?" she said in disbelief, and took a shot at him with her sword. "Enough of this!" he said, and whipped the sword from her hands. It clattered across the balcony, out of Presea's reach. Then he grabbed her by the shoulders and pinned her to the side of the balcony. "Tristan! Stop this!" "I tried and I tried! Why won't you love me Presea? WHY?" He shook her. Tears of frustration spilled from his eyes, as they did from Presea's. Presea looked at him through her tears. For the first time in her life… she feared Tristan. He was capable of killing her, and there was nothing she could do. She was helpless. He pulled her up and leaned her over the side of the balcony. "Tell me why Presea…" Presea's head spun. Her fear was taking over. No… I can't let my fear take control. I must be strong…Tristan shook his head and let her back up. He then looked into her eyes. "I can make you a promise," he said, his tone suddenly soft. "What do you mean?" "You're hurt Presea. I can see the blood from the glass… and the bruises. You must be feeling awful pain…" "What are you trying to say?" "I can take you away from the pain. If you marry me…" "No!" "Presea!" came a shout. Presea's heart leapt. "Braden!" Braden was standing at the door of the balcony, sword in hand. He looked in disbelief at Tristan. "What do you think you're doing Tristan?" "Stopping you, Braden!" Tristan shouted back. Without warning he pulled out a dagger and turned back to Presea. "If I can't have her, then nobody will!" He brought the dagger down into Presea's shoulder. Presea cried out in shock. Braden's heart felt as if it had been torn out. Tristan twisted the dagger and pulled it out. There was a smug look of satisfaction on his face as blood began to pour from the wound. Presea grasped her shoulder. The pain was unreal. Blood dripped down her arm and splattered on the floor. She looked at Tristan with question in her eyes. "Presea!" shouted Braden, and he charged Tristan. Tristan laughed and blasted Braden. The force of the blast backfired and caused Presea to lose her sense of balance… and before she knew it she was off the balcony.
Presea's stomach turned as she held on to the side of the balcony. The fall to the ground… would be fatal. The height was just dizzying. "I can't lose control. I have to stay focused…" But it was hard. The wind had picked up and rain began to come down from the sky. Presea's wounded shoulder was making it extremely difficult to hang on. It was a long way down. Presea heard Tristan and Braden shouting at each other. She had to get up and help. But how? Presea felt herself slipping. She was losing her strength. Was this the end? Then suddenly something dawned on Presea. The grappling hook around her waist. Presea silently gave thanks that she had been smart enough to bring it. But in order to untie the rope… she'd have to let go of the side and hold on with only one arm. Presea took a deep breath, and clung to the side with her strong arm. She used her wounded arm to untie the rope. Strong winds almost blew her off, but she concentrated. Once the rope was untied, Presea used all of her strength to swing it. The grappling hook flew through the air and hooked onto a gargoyle type statue above one of the tower windows. The rope was secure. All Presea had to do was let go and swing. But another obstacle stood in her way. If her calculations were off by an inch then she would slam into the wall. If her arm gave way then she'd fall to the ground below. If she flew straight into the window she wouldn't have time to open it. She'd have to risk swinging through the glass. Shouts from above made up Presea's mind. It was now or never. Presea took control of her fear… and let go of the balcony.
Braden's heart leapt to his throat when he saw Presea go over. Forgetting all about Tristan, he ran to the side and peered over. She was gone. "Presea!" he yelled into the wind. She couldn't be gone… He turned back to face Tristan. "Why? If you loved her so much then why?" he demanded. Tristan crossed his arms. "As I said, if I can't have her then nobody will. Do you think that I was about to sit around and watch her be in love with you?" "You're insane! You've lost your mind Tristan." "Not insane, my dear brother. Just smart and so evil. I decided a long time ago that I would not be weak." He got up in Braden's face. "And do you want to know why I made that decision?" Braden smirked. "I'm sure you're going to tell me." "The reason… is because I didn't want to be like you." "What?" "You were always weak. You never excelled in anything. That is why I don't want to be like you. That is why it hurts me to see Presea with you." "She's…" "Yes you fool. It hurt me to see that she was reduced to being with a sniveling child like you." "Your mind is clogged with evil. I don't believe you." "Believe what you wish…" Tristan sneered as he began to form a ball of darkness between his hands. "Because, brother, this is your end…"
Presea felt a sensation of freedom as she swung through the air. In a split second she felt light and carefree. Her fear was gone. Then reality took over as she realized that she was about to slam into a glass window. Presea squeezed her eyes shut. She slammed through the window. Glass flew everywhere. Presea felt some of it dig into her skin. Once on solid ground, Presea let go of the rope. She couldn't believe that she just flew through the window. She felt blood drip down her face. The wound in her shoulder still bled heavily. But Presea wasn't concerned about it anymore. Thunder rumbled as the rain got harder outside. Presea ran up the steps, leaving a trail of blood, and back on to the balcony. She saw her sword and lunged for it. Once reunited with the sword, Presea felt a bit of strength return to her. Tristan held darkness in his hands. He was about to… "Stop!" shouted Presea. Both men turned in shock. "Presea…" said Braden. "No…" whispered Tristan. "I won't let this go on!" he shot the darkness at Presea, but Braden interjected. "Lighting falcon!" A bird of lightning shot out of his hands and cut off Tristan's magic. Presea was wide eyed. Tristan was angry. "It seems that I've been underestimating you, Braden. You know a bit of magic do you? That's nice, but you won't be able to stop me! Darkness call!" A ribbon of darkness came at Braden. "Lightning call!" Lightning clashed with the darkness, and a big blast ensued. It knocked Presea off her feet. When the smoke from the blast cleared, neither Braden nor Tristan were on the balcony.
Presea stared at the space where the parapet used to be. She was dumbfounded for a moment. Then reality hit her. Were Braden and Tristan dead? She left her sword and ran to the edge. "Braden!" she shouted. The rain was pouring so hard that it blinded her. "Presea," came the faint voice of Braden. "Braden! I hear you. Where are you?" "Right below you!" Presea squinted. She could just make out the figure of Braden… and Tristan hanging on to his leg. She knew that Tristan's weight was pulling Braden down. They didn't have much time. Presea reached out. "Braden try to grab my arm!" Braden strained to grab Presea's arm. "I can't!" "Yes you can! Come on! You did this for me once… now it's my turn! So reach!" Braden took a deep breath and stretched out his arm. Presea reached as far as she could without falling off the edge. Their fingertips touched. "Come on you can do it!" Presea stretched even further. She would not let Braden fall. He didn't let her fall. She had to save his life. Braden lifted himself a bit and grabbed Presea's hand. "All right! Come up!" Presea pulled back and began to lift Braden and Tristan. Braden struggled, but realized that he was getting closer to safety. The thought of getting out of this mess with both himself and Presea alive gave him strength. They continued to struggle, and finally Braden was up on the balcony. Tristan had let go of Braden, and now clung to the edge. Braden was recovering from his near death experience. Presea turned her attention to Tristan. Compassion took over her, and she reached out for him. "Tristan! Grab my hand and I'll pull you up!" He looked up at her through the wind and rain. "Why Presea? I've caused you so much pain. Why would you save me?" Presea was taken aback for a moment. "Because I have to try! It would be cruel if I let you die without at least attempting to save you!" Tristan felt his heart soften. "Presea… you are truly noble." He grasped her hand, and she began to pull him up. "Come on Tristan. You can make it…" Tristan felt his hand slipping. "Can I?" "Push yourself!" Presea felt Tristan slip. He couldn't hang on. He looked into Presea's eyes. "Presea! I'm sorry for everything I've done. I hope you can eventually forgive me…" Then Presea felt him go completely. "No!" Tristan plummeted out of sight. Presea stood up and turned to Braden, who was now standing too. She smiled weakly at him. "I couldn't save him…" "Oh Presea… I'm sorry." "Me too." Braden held out his arms, and Presea stepped into them. He hugged her as best as he could without messing up her wounds even more. They pulled away from each other. "Wow Braden… you got a bit bloody there." "It's not my blood… it's yours." It was then when Presea felt the pain. She had been so driven to save Braden that she hadn't noticed it. Now the pain sliced through her like a thousand knives. Her feet gave way, and she collapsed. Braden was at her side immediately. "Presea what's wrong?" "It hurts… And I can't see straight…" Braden held her. He then realized how serious her injuries were. She had lost a lot of blood through that dagger wound alone… "Don't worry Presea. Everything will be all right. I'll take you to a healer." Presea reached for his hand, and he clasped hers. "I…I don't think that'll help me now." "What are you saying?" "I'm… dizzy. I see two of you right now." "You've lost a lot of blood. But a healer can help…" "No… not anymore." "Presea I'm not giving up on you." A tear slipped down Presea's cheek. "I can't feel my body anymore." "No Presea…" Presea closed her eyes. "Wait!" shouted Braden. Presea's voice came as a whisper. "Don't worry about me… it doesn't hurt anymore…" Braden felt her slip away. "No… Presea no…" He shook her gently, then more violently. Tears poured from his eyes. "Don't leave me Presea!" he screamed. And he wailed in agony as the rain and lightning continued…
Meanwhile, the Underground Society had a quick victory from Zagro's army. The palace guards had snapped out of their trance once Zagro disappeared, and they fought against his army. Everyone was congratulating each other. But there was some concern… Kerry stood with Jacq and Rogue. "Have you guys seen Presea?" she asked. "No… she left in the beginning of the battle," said Rogue. "Come to think of it," said Jacq, "Neither Presea nor Braden have come back from wherever they ran off to." Kerry though for a moment. "Well Presea went in the beginning of the battle. Braden was fighting the army for a while. Then he just disappeared too." "Presea went after Tristan," said Rogue. "I bet that's where Braden went too." Kerry and Jacq nodded. "We should get Stephen and Terria." Kerry called for Stephen and Terria, and they came over right away. "What's going on?" asked Terria. "We’re worried about Presea and Braden. They haven't come back," said Jacq. "And we don't know where they could have gone," added Kerry. "Wait a minute," muttered Stephen. "What is it?" asked Terria. Stephen held up a hand for silence. "Do you hear that?" The rest of them strained to hear. "I think I hear it," said Rogue. "What are you hearing?" asked Kerry. "It's someone shouting or something," said Stephen. "Come on!" The small group ran out of the throne room. "There you can hear it more clearly from here." Sure enough, they all heard great crying. "I think it's Braden," said Stephen. "And it's coming from that way." He pointed down the hall. "Well let's follow it," said Rogue. They agreed, and followed the sound until they came to the foot of the tower. "It's coming from up there," said Jacq. "Well let's go and see what it is," said Kerry. They began to walk up the stairs. They stopped when they saw the broken window and the blood. Rogue knelt down and examined the blood. "This is Presea's blood," he said in a hushed tone. "How do you figure?" asked Jacq. "Because…" Rogue reached out of the window and tugged on the rope of the grappling hook. "This grappling hook is Presea's." "You're right," said Terria. "Presea had a grappling hook around her waist. She must have swung through this window from somewhere." "And at a fast speed," said Stephen. The cries from above were getting louder. The group stopped examining the blood, and ran up the rest of the way. They came through the doorway into the rain, and were shocked by what they saw. The balcony had been half blasted away. The glass around the door was shattered. And in the middle of the balcony sat Braden holding Presea. Everyone's faces dropped. Presea was an absolute mess. Her clothes were practically rags and her hair had come undone. She was covered in bleeding cuts and there was a large gash in her shoulder. Braden noticed everyone standing there, but he was speechless. Terria stepped forward and knelt beside him. Braden shivered in the rain as tears still poured from his eyes. "Terria… she's…" he whispered. Then the truth dawned on Terria, and she turned back to the anxious eyes and shook her head. "She's dead," cried Braden. "Oh Braden I'm so sorry." "She's dead… and I couldn't save her." "Braden there was nothing you could have done," shouted Rogue. "No… No!" Braden looked at Presea. "Please Presea! Come back! You hear me? You were always the strong one. You never let anything beat you. Don't give up!" Braden began sobbing harder as he looked up to the sky. He shook his fist at the air. "Why Presea? Why did she have to die? Why can't you bring her back? Why? Answer me!" Suddenly there was a flash of bright light. When the light cleared Braden gasped. Standing before him was a young woman. She was wearing a beautiful dress and had long blonde hair and blue eyes. "You're…" gasped Braden. "I am Princess Emeraude." "The Pillar of Cephiro?" "Yes." Braden bowed his head. "Why was she taken from me? Why Presea?" "She lost her will to live…" "Look at her! Her wounds are large and painful. She lost too much blood." Emeraude knelt down in front of Braden and Presea. "That is true. What a beautiful soul…" "Princess Emeraude, she isn't just a beautiful soul. She's the Master Smith of Cephiro. She's the only one who can make weapons from escudo. And… and I love her!" Once again, Braden couldn't control his tears. "I see," said Princess Emeraude. "You really truly love her…" There was silence for a few moments. Then a small flash of light made Braden look up. Princess Emeraude was forming a red and gold orb of light between her hands. Braden was silent as he watched her pray over the orb. Then she gently touched Presea's wounded shoulder, and the orb floated from her hands into it…
What was this bright light? "Presea…" whispered a musical voice. "No let me sleep," she muttered. "Presea it's time for you to wake up." "I'm tired though." "You can't be tired now. You have a lot to do you know. Open your eyes Presea…" Presea slowly opened her eyes. The light blinded her, but soon she saw the outline of a woman. The woman came closer to Presea until she could see her clearly. "I know who you are!" "Yes. I am Emeraude." "Princess Emeraude… the Pillar of Cephiro." "Yes, and I am here to take you back." "Where am I?" "You're between time and space." "But how is that possible?" "Presea, you died." "I'm dead?" "Yes." "I…can't believe it." "Look for yourself." And the light vanished to reveal the scene on the balcony. Presea gasped when she saw it. Braden was on the ground and Terria was next to him. Stephen, Kerry, Jacq, and Rogue were huddled in the rain behind them. And the Presea saw…herself. "That's my body! That's me…" Princess Emeraude appeared beside her. "Yes, that is you." "Look at all of my friends…" "They're in pain." "They are?" "They miss you terribly. The one holding your body won't stop crying for a minute." "Oh Braden…" Presea said sadly. "I wish he wasn't sad. I want him to be happy again." The light came again and surrounded Presea. Princess Emeraude extended her arm. "Presea are you ready now?" Presea took a deep breath. "Yes I am." "Then take my hand." Presea reached out and touched Princess Emeraude's hand. And suddenly she was engulfed by bright light…
One heartbeat…two… One breath…life returning… slowly. Presea's body convulsed. "What's going on?" said Braden. Princess Emeraude just smiled. And then… Presea took in a deep breath. "She's alive!" shouted Braden. The group on the balcony cheered. Presea's eyes opened. "My work is done here," said Princess Emeraude. Braden was about to thank her, but she was gone. "Braden," came Presea's weak voice. "Presea!" he hugged her fiercely. "Ow my cuts!" "Sorry." Presea sat up slowly and looked around. "Terria, Stephen, Rogue, Kerry, Jacq… have I been asleep that long?" They all laughed. Braden looked into Presea's eyes seriously. "You're alive… but how?" Presea smiled. "Let's just say I had help from a friend." Braden and Terria helped her stand up. "Well I thank that friend," said Braden as he though of Princess Emeraude. "Come on let's go get you bandaged up."
The group slowly and carefully walked to the healer's room in the palace. Unfortunately the room was dark and there was no healer to be found. "Oh great," said Braden. "Now what?" asked Presea. "I think I can help," said Terria. "I was training to be a healer until I met Stephen. I know I can stitch up Presea's gash and bandage her wounds." "That would work," said Presea. "Yeah I'll help," offered Kerry. "Then it's settled," said Terria. "All men out. We need some privacy for this." "What?" said Braden. "Please Braden," said Presea. He looked into her eyes and understood. "All right. Come on guys let's wait in the hall," Braden motioned for the guys to follow him, which they did. Before Braden closed the door, he stuck his head in one last time. "Terria and Kerry you better take care of Presea." "They will," said Presea. Braden laughed. "I know. I just had to say that." Presea rolled her eyes and Braden left the room, closing the door behind him.
Stephen and Jacq wandered down the hall, looking at the paintings on the walls. Rogue was leaning against the wall, tossing a coin in the air. Braden was pacing back and forth in front of the door. Rogue looked up. "Hey man can't you stand still for a minute?" Braden stopped. "I was pacing wasn't I?" "Yeah." "I'm sorry. I'm just worried." "About Presea?" "Yeah. I just hope she makes a full recovery." A far away look came into Rogue's eyes. "She'll be fine. That girl is one of the strongest people I know. And I know my share of strong people." "I know. She's just great with everything. Whether it's art and literature or sword fighting and weapons. She knows it all." "Braden why don't you just tell her?" Braden stared at Rogue. "What do you mean?" "Tell her that you love her." "I…" "Listen, we all heard you say it. Why is it so hard for you to tell her?" "I don't want her to think that I'm a fool." Rogue tossed the coin up. "Presea is a smart girl. Believe me, she won't think that you're foolish. In fact, I think she loves you." "How would you know?" "Hey I practically grew up with the girl. She's like a sister to me. Let me just tell you this: you don't meet a girl like her every day. If you don't take the chance now, then you might never get the chance again. Don't let her slip away from you. Presea's a really special person." "You don't have to tell me that." "Well then?" "I'll tell her. I'll tell her tonight!" The door to the healer's room flew open, and the three women emerged. Terria came first. She touched Braden's shoulder. "Don't worry Presea's just fine." Then Kerry walked by and just smiled. She joined Terria and they headed down the hall toward Stephen and Jacq. Finally Presea came out. "So," said Braden, "How are you feeling?" "Pretty good now. Most of the scratches were just surface scratches. But check this out." Presea pulled her sleeve down a little bit, revealing a huge bandage. "That's where the dagger wound is," said Braden. "Yeah. This bandage goes all the way around my back. Thank goodness that Terria knows what she's doing. In a few weeks the stitches can come out and I'll just have a scar." Just then Rogue popped up behind them. "So Presea will you live?" Presea laughed. "Thanks for the encouragement Rogue. I'm fine." Rogue nodded to Braden. "See what did I tell you? She's tough as nails. Don't forget Braden…" "I won't." "Good" Rogue swung a rope to the ceiling, swung up, and disappeared. "How does he do that?" muttered Braden. "What was he talking about Braden?" "Huh? Oh he just told me how strong you were and all." "Oh is that it?" "Yeah." Presea looked a little downcast. "Oh well if that's all... I'm really tired. I think I'm going to lie down. I'll see you in a bit." Braden just stared at her as she walked off. He leaned against the wall and shook his head. "What did I do wrong now?"
Presea walked slowly down the hallway. As she entered the forge she sighed. It had been a long day, and what Braden had said didn't make her feel any better. She had fought for him… out of pure love. "I love him," she said out loud. She sat on a bench in the middle of the forge. "I love him… and expected him to love me back." Tears brimmed in her eyes, but she brushed them away quickly. "Why did I expect so much? Presea, when are you going to learn? You can't expect things to happen. It all ends in disappointment." The storm had cleared and now sunlight beamed down on her through the window at the top of the forge. "I was so stupid. How could he love me? We've grown up together like relatives almost…" Presea kept telling herself that it wasn't possible. Soon the warm sunlight combined with fatigue made Presea lie down on the bench. She was fast asleep in minutes.
Braden stood in front of the forge. He had a feeling that Presea would be there. He opened the door slowly. Presea was in the middle of the room, sleeping on a bench. Braden quietly walked up behind the bench and looked down at Presea. The sunlight made the scene seem like a painting. Braden reached down and stroked Presea's cheek. "I love you Presea… I want to tell you. How can I tell you how much I love you?" He walked around the bench and knelt down in front of it. "How can I tell you that I'd walk the whole world for you? I'd die for you Presea. That's how much I love you. If I could only tell you. If it was only this easy to tell you when you wake up…" Presea stirred. Braden backed up a bit. She opened her eyes slowly, and was blinded by sunlight for a moment. When her eyes adjusted she glanced beside her. "Braden? What's up?" He just looked at her. She sat up. "Ah… ow." "What is it?" "Oh my arm's a little stiff. Do you want to sit?" "Sure." Braden sat beside her. "Are you feeling better now?" Presea nodded. "I'm fine now. I'm sure I can make it through this." "Through what?" Presea was a bit surprised. "Um… my wounds. The healing process. You know?" "Oh I see. Presea can I talk to you seriously for a minute?" "All right." Braden took a deep breath. "Well I don't know where to begin. I mean… Ok. I was thinking. We've practically grown up together in the past few years. You taught me so much about everything. I mean when I was younger I was just clueless. Then you came and taught me about fighting and about life." "You know Braden, I'm really a bit sorry about what happened with Tristan today. He slipped." "Oh Presea, it's not your fault at all. You did all that you could do." "Yeah I guess so." "Anyway what I'm trying to get to here… I mean what I'm trying to tell you is… That I love you Presea." Presea's eyes widened and Braden continued. "I've loved you for so long. I mean when I was younger I admired you for everything that you did, but now I realize that I really truly loved you then too. I'd do anything for you Presea. When you died in my arms I felt as if the world was crashing down on me. I felt as if somebody had ripped out my heart and stepped on it too many times." "Braden I don't know what to say…" Braden took Presea into his arms. "Don't say anything." He held her close and for a moment time seemed to stand still. Presea looked up into Braden's eyes. "I've been meaning to tell you for sometime… that I love you too Braden." Tears formed in Braden's eyes. "You do?" "Yes. I really do." Braden smiled and kissed Presea gently. Then he stood up and offered his arm to her. She accepted. "Come on. We'd better get back or everyone will think we're missing."
Braden and Presea entered the throne room where they were greeted by loud cheers. "What's going on here?" asked Braden. "As if you didn't know," Dylan said with pride. "We defeated Zagro's army. And we heard of your fight on the balcony and Presea's near death experience. I must say that it was the finest display of nobility that I have ever heard." "Well thank you," said Presea. Just then Hugh and the guards walked into the room with all of the palace workers. Tristan and Zagro had locked them all in the dungeon, but now they were able to get out and were happy to be free. One of the late king's chief advisors, Arden, stepped forward. "As the head of the late king's counsel, I have an announcement to make." Everyone was silent as the listened to Arden. "Sadly the king was killed. Tristan, his heir to the throne died as well. So it is by law that the next son in line takes the throne. Prince Braden, tomorrow is your coronation. After that you will be known as King Braden, ruler of Questria." The room erupted into cheers. Presea turned and hugged Braden. And in his ear she whispered, "I'm so proud of you. You really have proven yourself, your majesty." Braden grinned. "Please, I beg you not to call me that!" Presea laughed, and they went arm in arm to accept congratulations for Braden's new position.
The rest of the day passed quickly. Now Presea entered the forge once again. She walked across it and into her quarters. She carefully placed her sword down on her bed and looked up at the wall. There was the rapier, still hanging there how she had left it. A small smile spread across Presea's lips. She exited her room and walked down the hall to Riley's room. Gently, she pushed the door open. Riley's room was simple, as it had always been. He had a few weapons on the wall, a trunk, a bed, and not much else. Riley had led a fairly simple life as the Master Smith. And now Presea had inherited the position. She ran her hand across one of the swords hanging on the wall and sighed. "Riley…" she said aloud. She walked around his room slowly. "I hope… that you are hearing my words now. I have done as I promised. I helped get Questria back." Presea turned around and looked across the room. "You knew all along that it was Tristan who betrayed Questria didn't you? That's what you were trying to tell us before you died. Sometimes I really miss you Riley. You took me under your wing and taught me so much about weapons. You were almost like another father." Presea stopped to think. She realized that she had three father figures in her life. Her real father Benedict was her true father. But then Riley had acted like a father. And then Stephen did too. Presea smiled. "I hope that you're at peace now Riley. Questria is saved. And I promise you that if the time of the magic knights comes, I'll be ready. I know it's what you would've wanted." Presea walked to the door. She took one last look around the room and closed the door slowly. Then she walked back to her room and went to bed.
"Hey girl! Get up!" Presea opened her eyes. Kerry was leaning over her bed, shaking her to wake her up. "What time is it?" "It's almost noon. It's almost time for Braden's coronation." "Oh man!" Presea got out of bed and went to change. When she returned she found Kerry admiring her rapier. "This rapier is so beautiful. I've never seen anything like it." "I got it from a duelist," Presea said proudly, remembering that day. "He just gave it to me. I know that it's not my true chosen weapon, but it must be my second one." Kerry laughed. "We'd better get going." "Yeah I don't want Braden to think that we're ditching his coronation!"
Presea and Kerry ran to the throne room. A bunch of people had crowded in there already. The two made their way to the front where Stephen, Terria, Jacq, and Rogue were already standing. "So glad to see that you've finally found your way out of bed," joked Rogue. Presea swatted him playfully. "Oh be quiet Rogue. I was tired." He draped an arm around her shoulder. "You know, if you weren't injured I'd hit you back." "Hey," said Jacq. "It's not proper to hit a lady…" "What lady?" asked Rogue. "This is only Presea." Presea turned and lightly kicked him in the shins. "Children children," said Stephen as he shook his head. "What kind of behavior is this?" Then he cracked up. Terria rolled her eyes. "Who's the child now?" she muttered. They all looked at each other silently for a moment, and then broke into laughter. Then a hush fell over the room as Arden stepped onto the platform that had been set up. "Lords and ladies," he began. "Not Presea," muttered Rogue. "Shut up you oaf!" Presea whispered back. Arden continued. "We are here for a very important ceremony. The coronation of a new king. As you all know, the last king has passed on. This was a very unfortunate and sad event for us all. His heir to the throne, Tristan, is dead as well. We all have gotten through the pain of mourning them. But now we are here for a joyous occasion. This is the coronation that will make Prince Braden into King Braden. Braden, if you'll come out please." Braden appeared from a side doorway. He was dressed in the traditional purple royal robes. Everyone clapped politely as he made his was up the platform. Presea gave him a little wave, and he smiled at her. Arden bowed his head. "I will now present the crown to you, Braden. From this day forth, I proclaim thee King Braden of Questria." He placed the golden crown on Braden's head. The crowd cheered loudly. The loudest cheers came from the group in the front. Arden knelt before Braden. "Your majesty, I know you will fulfill your duties well. Please… a speech to the people." Braden nodded and faced everyone. "Good people of Questria, and those not from Questria, I bid you a good afternoon. I must say to you that it was almost a shock to me when I was informed that I would be crowned king. When I was younger I never thought that I'd see a day like today. As your king, I promise you all that there will be peace and prosperity in Questria. Never again will we see a day of death like yesterday. I hope that I will be able to follow in my father's footsteps. The rebuilding of Questria will start immediately. I will not rest until this kingdom is peaceful. Thank you." Everyone applauded. "Nice speech," said Kerry. "He's always been a good speaker," said Presea. "He just always underestimated himself." Arden spoke once again. "There you have it, good people. King Braden!" Braden motioned for Arden to come over to him. They whispered for a few moments, and Arden stepped forward once again. "King Braden has a few more things to say, so if he could have your attention please." Braden cleared his throat. "Good people of Questria, a few minutes ago I told you how it was a shock to me that I became king. I told you that when I was younger I thought that I'd never see a day like today. Fortunately I had some help. There is one person in this room… that taught me so much about everything. Everything about life and achieving goals. This person is none other than Cephiro's Master Smith, Presea. Presea, would you come up here?" Presea couldn't move for a moment. "Hello Presea, the king wants you up there," said Kerry. She gave Presea a gentle push forward. Presea gathered her wits and stepped calmly onto the platform and beside Braden. "Everyone, this woman is pure heart. The strength of her will is unbelievable. She's strong in everything. Even death. And I'd like to tell you what I told her. I told her that I'd walk the world for her. And I mean it. She means everything to me." He turned to Presea and took her hand. "We've been through so much together. I never want that to change. Presea, would you marry me and become my queen?" Presea gasped along with the rest of the room. "Braden," she whispered. "Yes. Of course I'll marry you!" The room erupted into cheers. Braden took Presea into his arms and hugged her, being careful not to hurt her injuries. Tears were streaming down both of their faces. They heard shouts from Rogue. "Hey Braden what'd I tell you?" Presea looked at Braden. "What did he tell you anyway?" Braden sighed. "Never mind." Presea laughed. Then suddenly there was a shout from the back of the room. "Presea!" The shout was all too familiar… Presea turned and looked back toward the door. Standing there was… "Trent!" shouted Presea. "Lily, Gavin, Caitlin! My family!" Braden smiled. "Go to them." Presea bolted from the platform to the back. She stopped before her family. "I can't believe that you guys are here. I thought that I was the only one left." "No way," said Trent. "And look at you," said Lily. "The last time we all saw you was when you were eight years old. Presea, you're absolutely beautiful!" Tears formed in Lily's eyes. Presea hugged her sister, as the rest of her siblings joined in for a group hug. "We heard about what happened to mother, father, Rusty, and Sierra," began Gavin. "But there was no news about you," said Caitlin. "Then we heard about what happened yesterday, and we came as quickly as we could," said Lily. Trent grinned. "I can't believe how grown up you are Presea. You're the Master Smith of Cephiro, and soon you'll be queen." Presea and her family hugged again. She felt pure happiness. Soon she would be married to the man she loved most, but now her family would be there to support her.
The next weeks were a whirlwind of activity. Braden and Presea were going crazy with all of their responsibilities. Presea had a lot of catching up to do with her family. They spent endless hours talking. Presea's wounds were healing well. They would be fully healed within a few weeks, but she still had to keep up with them. Not only that, but planning a wedding took a lot of work. Braden and Presea were lucky that they had help. After much thinking they had decided that Terria would be the matron of honor and Lily, Caitlin, and Kerry would be bridesmaids. When Presea was asked on why one of her sisters wasn't the matron of honor, Presea said that Terria was like another family member and that she wanted her as matron of honor because she had always looked out for her. Stephen would be Braden's best man and Jacq, Trent, and Gavin would be ushers. Rogue would give Presea away since he had grown up with her. Then came the fittings for the clothing. All of the men would wear royal robes. Braden and Presea decided that burgundy would be the color of the women's dresses since it was Presea's favorite color. The fittings seemed to last forever. And then there was the decisions on what kind of flowers they would have, food, etc. By the end of all of it Presea and Braden were thoroughly exhausted. And if that wasn't enough, Braden had his other responsibilities as king and Presea had her responsibilities as Master Smith. They had asked Rogue, Kerry, Jacq, Stephen, and Terria if they wanted to live at the castle. All accepted the invitation, and Stephen and Terria were especially happy because they found that there was a huge swamp behind the castle. Finally the wedding day arrived. Presea was relaxing when Terria, Kerry, and her sisters showed up at her door. "What's up?" asked Presea. "Your dress," said Terria. They brought in Presea's beautiful white wedding dress. "Wow…" whispered Presea. "I didn't think it would be that pretty." "It's your wedding dress. It's supposed to look like that," said Lily. "Come on," interrupted Caitlin. "You have to get ready. The wedding's in three hours!"
Meanwhile in another part of the castle, Braden was fixing his robes. Stephen entered his room. "Nervous Braden?" Braden jumped. "Oh hello Stephen. Yes I'm a bit nervous. Though I don't understand why. I mean it's Presea. We know each other so well… why should I be nervous?" "You're babbling Braden. Don't worry it's a natural thing. The day that Terria and got married was the scariest day of my life." "Really?" "Yup. You know, I love her so much and I loved her just as much back then. It's just pretty scary when you're up there." "Well I know I'm ready. I'm willing to commit myself to Presea for the rest of my life." "You're a good man, Braden. Presea's one lucky girl. Come on we'd better go find the others." Braden nodded. He took one last look in the mirror. He was ready.
"Presea!" shouted Lily. "What?" "We're all dressed and waiting for you. Hurry up! We still have to do your hair and fix your veil." "All right I'm coming!" Presea stumbled out of one of the dressing rooms. She sighed and stood up straight. "Wow you look beautiful," said Caitlin. "Yeah you'll knock 'em dead!" said Kerry. Presea rolled her eyes. "You guys! Please… I'm so nervous that I'll probably trip on my dress and fall over." Kerry jumped up from where she was sitting. "Don't jinx yourself! Come over here and sit." Presea obeyed. Lily came up behind her. "All right I'm doing your hair. Caitlin, you do her makeup. Kerry help me." "Hey where's Terria?" asked Presea. "She's getting the flowers," said Lily. "Now close your eyes and don't open them until I tell you to." "Ok." Presea shut her eyes and they got to work. She was very jumpy. "Would you please sit still," said Caitlin. "I'll mess up and then I'll have to start all over again." "I'm sorry. I just have butterflies in my stomach." "You'll be fine. Just breathe." Presea took a few deep breaths. After what seemed like hours, Lily finally announced, "We're done! You can open your eyes now." Presea opened her eyes slowly. She was very surprised. Lily had taken the sides of her hair and braided them. Then she had tied them in the back and left the rest down. Kerry had stuck little white flowers in the braids. And Caitlin's makeup job was terrific. "Wow," Presea said, a little breathless. "I look so… different." "You look great," came Terria's voice from the door. Presea stood up. "You really think so?" "I wouldn't lie to you." Terria handed Presea a huge bouquet of white flowers. Then she distributed the smaller bouquets of flowers to Lily, Caitlin, and Kerry. The last thing that needed to be done was Presea's veil. Lily carefully fastened it to Presea's hair with a few pins. Finally Presea was done getting ready. She looked in the mirror. "This is too weird. I feel like I'm looking at a painting." Both of her sisters stood on either side of her. "You really do look like one of those brides from a storybook," said Caitlin. "I feel like one." "Hey Presea," said Terria. "Yeah?" "It's time." Presea shut her eyes for a moment. "All right I'm ready to go."
The wedding was taking place in the throne room. Presea and the other women stood in the hall with the men. The guests had already assembled, and Braden was already in the throne room as well. Presea was getting nervous. "This is way too overwhelming. I think I need to sit." Stephen put a comforting arm around her shoulder. "You're going to be fine. Just close your eyes and take a few deep breaths." Presea did. She felt better. Just then Dylan stuck his head out of the doors. "It's time. They're ready to start." Each member of the wedding party gave Presea a kiss on the cheek. Then they all stood, waiting to go in. Presea waited with Rogue as she watched everyone go in. Finally it was their turn. Rogue looked at Presea. "Ready?" Presea took his arm. "As ready as I'll ever be." "That's my girl." "Oh Rogue stop it." "I'm just kidding with you. It's time for us to go in." The doors opened and Rogue and Presea walked into the room. Everyone stood to look. Presea walked carefully, trying not to pay attention to all of those eyes. It wasn't that she didn't like the attention. It was just that she was nervous. Braden stood at the front of the throne room. He watched as Rogue brought Presea down the aisle. His heart was beating fast. Presea looked absolutely beautiful. She looked like a doll. Braden almost wondered if any of this was real. But reality kicked in as Presea stepped up to him. He could tell that she was nervous. She could tell that he was nervous too. Braden smiled and took Presea's hand. Then the vows began. Presea felt as if she was in a dream. She could scarcely remember what was being said to her. It was time for them to exchange rings. Presea felt her confidence return as she put the ring on Braden's finger. She smiled when Braden put the ring on her finger, though his hand was shaking. The rest of the wedding went smoothly. The saying of "I do" flew by and suddenly it was time for Braden to kiss the bride. He did, and everyone cheered. Presea now felt as if she was floating in the air. Braden took her hand and they both went down the aisle. It was time for the party.
The party seemed to fly by as fast as the ceremony had. Braden and Presea were heaped by compliments and congratulations. A stack of wedding gifts had piled up almost to the ceiling. They had their wedding cake, and Presea threw her bouquet. They all laughed when Kerry caught it. Braden and Presea danced all night. Then Presea took a moment to step out for fresh air. Braden followed her. "So," he said softly. "How are you doing Presea?" Presea laughed. "I feel great. Just a bit tired though." "What a day," said Braden. "You know, Presea, I had always dreamed of a day like this." "Me too. But you know what? I can't wait to get out of this dress and back into normal clothes." "Presea, you look so beautiful. When you came down the aisle… you looked like a goddess." "Thank you." Moonlight shined down on the two. Presea leaned on the rail of the balcony. "Everything seems so strange. But it's a good feeling." Braden came up behind Presea and put his arms around her waist. Presea leaned back against Braden. "The stars… are so pretty tonight. It's as if everything is just perfect," she said. Braden tightened his hold on Presea. "Everything is perfect now that we're together. Presea… I never want to let you go. Do you think that we'll always be together like this?" Presea sighed. "I really hope so. I hope we'll be together forever." "Forever," repeated Braden. He kissed Presea on the cheek. "I love you Presea." "I love you too Braden." And they stood together in the moonlight for a long time. It was as if everything else didn't matter anymore. Now they were going to be together for the rest of their lives. Or so they thought…

Seven years later…

Seven years had passed. The years had been peaceful and prosperous. Braden and Presea were busy with running the kingdom. Presea also forged many weapons. Trent and Gavin had reopened their father's blacksmith shop in the city. Lily and Caitlin lived in the city as well. Kerry and Jacq had gotten married not long after Presea and Braden. Rogue now worked at the castle. Stephen and Terria still went out into the swamp… but Terria had stayed around the castle lately because she was pregnant. Everyone in Questria loved their king and queen. But now everything was about to change…
"Presea," a voice spoke clearly. "Who are you?" "I am a friend to you Presea." "That doesn't tell me who you are. And why are you speaking to me?" "You will find out in due time." "I don't understand what you're trying to say." "The time is near Presea." "What are you talking about?" "Awakening…destiny is coming closer." "Destiny…" "Cephiro's destiny. The time will be upon you soon." "Oh no. I think I'm understanding…" "Good. I will come for you." "Wait! Who are you?" "Till next time Presea." "WAIT!" Presea sat up, drenched in sweat. It had been a dream. A dream… or a premonition? A few streaks of moonlight shined in through the window, casting an eerie glow in the darkened room. Presea glanced beside her. Braden was sleeping soundly. Presea shivered. She felt clammy and cold now. Tears welled up in her eyes. She had no reason to cry… except now she felt pressure. She had a feeling about that dream. Something big would happen soon. "Presea?" asked Braden's tired voice. "Yeah?" "What's wrong?" "Nothing." Braden sat up and rubbed his eyes. "There's something wrong. I can tell." Presea shook her head in the darkness. Braden turned her head toward him. "You've been crying." "No." "Yes you have. Don't lie to me. Something's bothering you." Presea sighed. "I had a strange dream." "About?" "Someone was talking to me. Telling me that destiny was coming. Cephiro's destiny." "No way." "Yes. I think that there's something more. But I can't pinpoint it. The only thing that I can think of is that story about the Magic Knights that Riley told me so long ago." "You think that you're going to be summoned to make their weapons?" "I don't know. Possibly." "Well why don't you get some rest and think about it more tomorrow. After all, it is the middle of the night." "You're right. It might not mean anything." Presea lied back down. And after a long time, she finally fell back asleep.
Presea woke up easily the next morning. She dressed quickly in a red bodysuit with a Smith's apron over it. After putting on her boots, pulling on her gloves, and securing her sword, Presea called a meeting in the study. Presea shifted in her chair as Braden, Stephen, Terria, Rogue, Kerry, and Jacq came in and sat down. Finally when everyone was settled Presea stood up and spoke. "I've called this meeting because of something that happened to me last night. I had a strange dream. Someone was telling me that Cephiro's destiny was arriving soon. The only thing that I could make from the dream was that I might be summoned soon to make the weapons for the legendary Magic Knights." Rogue crossed his arms. "Do you really think that the legend could come true?" he asked. "Yeah I always thought it was just a story," said Kerry. "I don’t think so. Master Smith Riley was very serious when he told me the story so long ago. But if I am summoned… then that means that I'm going to have to leave here for some time." Presea looked a bit sad. "I want to say good bye to you all now when I have the chance. I could be summoned at any time, and I don't want to leave without saying good bye." She glanced at Terria. "I'm so sorry Terria. I wanted to help with the birth of the baby. I wanted to be there for you." "Don't worry about it Presea. This is your destiny. You're doing a far more important job. Without you, the legend couldn't happen." Presea nodded. She went over, knelt down by Terria, and placed a hand on her stomach. "All right, you better be nice to your mother," she said. "Hey it just kicked!" Terria laughed. Jacq and Kerry stood up. Presea faced them, and the three had a group hug. "Thank you for everything Presea," said Jacq. "Yeah you led us all to victory," added Kerry. "It was nothing. Thank you guys for believing in me." "Hey you know we'll be here when you get back." "I know. I'll miss you guys anyway." Then Jacq took Kerry's hand and they left the room. Presea turned to Stephen and Terria. "I'd like to thank you guys for taking care of me. You were almost like a mother and father. Good luck with the baby. I can't wait to see it." "Presea," said Stephen, "You make it seem as if you'll never return." "Don't worry. I'm going to come back. I just don't know how long I'll be gone." "Well I hope it's not too long," said Terria. "Me too. But seriously you guys, keep on doing your stuff with reptiles when I'm gone. It's such a good thing that you're doing." Presea hugged Stephen and Terria. "We love you like you're our daughter, Presea," said Terria. "Yeah. Safe journey, and you better come back in one piece," added Stephen. Sui came up to Presea, and she scratched her behind the ears one last time. "You be a good dog. Take care of your masters and make sure to watch the baby." Sui barked. They all laughed. Then Stephen helped Terria up. They hugged Presea once again and exited the room, followed by Sui. Presea smiled as she watched them go. Then she turned to Rogue. "Rogue…" He opened his arms, and Presea walked into them. "How in the world can I ever thank you for everything you've done for me? You saved my life when I was little. You watched out for me and kept me alive. How could I ever repay you?" Rogue smiled. "Presea, if the legend does come true, then you'll repay us all. Without your weapons, the magic knights won't stand a chance. In the long run, you're going to be the one to save us all if the time comes. And for that I'm grateful. I feel so honored that you, the Master Smith of Cephiro, are my lifelong friend. I'll miss you." "I'll miss you too." They pulled away from each other. Rogue took out one of his many grappling hooks. He swung it up, and disappeared into the ceiling. Presea shook her head and laughed. Rogue was just too much. Then Presea turned to Braden. His eyes were tearing up. "I'd like to go to the weaponry. The weapons have to be cleaned," said Presea. "If you want to come with me, we can talk there." Braden nodded. He took Presea's hand, and together they walked to the weaponry. Braden sighed. "Presea, in the back of my mind I always feared this moment." "What do you mean?" "The moment when you'd be taken away from me." "But I'll be coming back." "I know. It's just that you could be gone for months…maybe a year. I just can't imagine a life without you." "Don't worry. Everything will be ok. You're a wonderful leader. Questria will be fine without me." Braden stopped walking and faced Presea. "It's true. Questria will be fine… but what about me?" "I know I'll be gone, but it won't be forever. You have everyone here to support you. Everybody thinks that you're a great person Braden. And you should believe that too." "Thank you Presea. I just hope that one day you'll return to me safe and sound. I love you with all of my heart. I don't want anything to happen to you." "I'll be fine." They continued walking, and stopped outside the door of the weaponry. Presea hugged Braden. "I'll miss you a lot. I love you so much Braden. This is just as hard for me as it is for you. But I know that this is my destiny. A destiny which I am very honored to have." Braden smiled. "That's my girl. I know you'll fulfill your duties with honor." He kissed her. Then Presea gently pushed the door to the weaponry open. She walked in slowly, and Braden followed. They got to work on cleaning the weapons. It was a tiring job, but Presea loved to do it and Braden loved to help her. Presea sighed as she polished one of the swords. "Really these soldiers lately. They just order weapons and never come to pick them up." Braden was about to reply, when a man suddenly appeared. He was very short, dressed in mage's robes, and carried a long staff. Presea turned abruptly, and immediately kneeled. She recognized the man. "You're Master Mage Clef." Braden stood against the wall, in awe, and Clef spoke to Presea. "Have you heard from the previous Master Smith?" Presea was overwhelmed for a moment. "Huh?" "About the Magic Knights?" Presea almost blushed. "I'm so sorry. I have heard about them. I was told to make weapons for them when Cephiro faced danger." "Unfortunately that time has come." "What?" asked Presea, a hint of shock in her voice. "Are you ready?" asked Clef. "Yes." "All right. Take my hand." Presea glanced at Braden. He nodded to her and smiled. Presea took Clef's hand, and the weaponry dissolved around her.
Presea and Clef appeared in a strange house. Presea looked around and out of the many windows. "This is…" she whispered. "The Forest of Silence," said Clef. Presea gasped. "The one where monsters roam about?" Clef looked a bit sad. "High Priest Zagato has taken Princess Emeraude captive." "What?" asked Presea, remembering the kind Princess Emeraude who had saved her life seven years ago. "You're the only one who can create weapons from escudo," said Clef. "I cannot allow you to fall prey to Zagato." "Yes." "The Forest of Silence is a horrendous place, but you can't use magic here. Even Zagato can't lay hands on you easily. Only the Magic Knights can open the door to this house. Although, if Zagato were really serious, I'm sure he could enter as easily as one could take candy from a baby." "I will not die," said Presea, a strong tone in her voice. "Presea," said Clef. "Until I create the weapons that I can entrust to the Magic Knights." "I'm glad that you are the Master Smith. I'm sure you will do the job wonderfully." Presea nodded. "I am honored." She knelt down and kissed Clef's hand. Then Clef lifted his staff. "Makona summon!" Presea was taken aback as light flashed, revealing a pink rabbit type animal. "What is that?" she asked. "This is Makona. When the Magic Knights come to you, please give it to them." "I will." "Puu," said Makona. "I must go now," said Clef. He lifted his staff and disappeared. Presea stared at where he had been standing. "Clef," she muttered. "Puu!" said Makona, and it jumped down the halls. "Hey you! Get back here or I'll punish you!" shouted Presea as she ran after Makona. Makona led her on a chase through the big house. Presea was happy to find a study, a forge, and a weaponry. Staying there wouldn't be as bad as she thought. Finally Presea caught up to Makona. "Puu!" it said. "Is that all you ever say?" "Puu!" "If you're going to be this much trouble all the time, then I might have to punish you. Hmmm what's a good punishment? Maybe I'll pull on your ears to see how far they stretch!" "Puu!" cried Makona, and it ran off down another one of the halls. Presea sighed. The wait for the magic knights was going to be a long one.
After chasing Makona around all day, Presea had finally caught it. Now it was sound asleep. Presea walked to one of the large windows and leaned on the sill. Moonlight bounced off the tops of the trees, and she could hear the sounds of monsters prowling around. She shivered. It was kind of frightening living alone in the big house with nobody but Makona, but Presea was sure that she's adjust to her new life soon. She looked up at the stars and sighed. She already felt a pang of homesickness for Braden and Questria. Presea wished on a star that she'd be able to return home soon. "I love you Braden!" Presea called out into the night. "And I promise that I'll come home soon!" Those words made Presea stop and think. Would she really be able to go back to Questria soon? When would the Magic Knights arrive? What would they be like? So many questions filled Presea's mind. And only time would tell the answers. Presea wandered away from the window and into her bedroom. She flopped down on the bed and her eyes closed. Tomorrow would be a new day. A day full of learning and surprises. Presea couldn't wait to see what challenges awaited her. Nothing would stop her from fulfilling her responsibilities. Destiny was here… and Presea was ready to face it.
