528 Non-Stop
Scene 1: Gabrielle's backyard. Gabrielle and Andrea are sunning themselves.
Andrea:
Gabrielle, it is so hot out here!
Gabrielle:
Well at least we're not in math class!
Andrea:
Or Geography. They're the worst! That and the fact that you are moving in a week. And you are going so far. I mean New Zealand…where is that anyway? They never taught us that in Geography. It's like halfway around the world right?
Gabrielle:
It's near Australia, really Andrea and they did teach us that in Geography, but you wouldn't remember because you slept through it.
Andrea:
(In a whiny voice) This sucks I mean why do you have to move anyway?
Gabrielle:
Did you sleep through this too? I must have told you a million times! My dad is really loyal to the company and the whole corporation is moving back home.
Andrea:
Well isn't this your home now? You've been here for…um…
Gabrielle:
Seven years. I know. I have a lot of memories here, but half of me wants to go back.
Andrea:
(Teasingly) And the other half belongs here with Cole.
Gabrielle:
Not unless we want Richard to get jealous.
(Both Laugh)
Andrea:
(Seriously) No matter how far away you are we'll still be best friends forever.
Gabrielle:
All of us, even Richard.
Fade out Scene 1
Scene 2: Andrea's house. Andrea and Cole are making last minute adjustments for Gabrielle's surprise party.
Cole:
(Shouts) Hey Richard we need you to get some…
(Enter Richard stage right)
Richard:
(Runs on and strikes a dramatic pose) You beckoned? (Puts arm around Cole) What did you say you needed again darling?
Cole:
(Uncomfortably) Chips from the supermarket you know (points to door) that way.
(Enter Andrea stage left)
Richard:
(Bows) As you wish. (Walks to door) Master (shudders happily and leaves upstage center)
Andrea:
(Giggles) Whoa haven't you broken the news to him yet?
Cole:
What do you mean?
Andrea:
About you and (whispers) Gabrielle.
Cole:
(Sighs) He knows, but I wish that he would act like it though. He freaks me out sometimes.
Andrea:
Awwwww afraid of a little man love?
Cole:
Since when have you been an expert on man love?
Andrea:
(Gives him the look) Cole get off it!
Cole:
Fine (makes cat noise)
(Andrea walks off stage left
Doorbell rings. Cole opens door. Gabrielle stands in doorway)
Andrea's Voice:
Who is it?
Cole:
Well…(pushing Gabrielle out) someone who should come back (looks over shoulder) um later.
Gabrielle:
Cole!
(Enter Andrea stage left)
Andrea:
No Cole really who is….
Cole:
(Spins Gabrielle around to Andrea) Surprise?
Andrea:
What? Oh yeah um…(perky) surprise!
Gabrielle:
(Looks at both of them strangely) You guys did this for me? Ok Richard where are you don't even think of…
Cole:
He's not here. I sent him out to get some chips (Andrea laughs). I wonder what's taking him so long.
Gabrielle:
(Looks around) Isn't anybody else supposed to be here?
Andrea:
Yeah. Richard must have found a cute check out guy (winks at Cole) but no one else has an excuse.
(Door flies open. Enter Katarina and George)
Katarina:
Sorry we are late! There's a big…Oh hi Gab…Surprise!
Cole:
There's a big what?
George:
(Breathing heavily) Surprise!
Andrea:
Ok that has been established! There's a big what?
George/Katarina:
There's a big car crash on 57th Street. (They look at each other)
George:
Go ahead.
Katarina:
Thanks honey. (blushes) As we were saying, there is this huge car pile up and the traffic is horrible so that is why we are so late. Sorry Gabrielle.
Gabrielle:
Don't worry about it. At least you weren't the ones in that wreck.
(The phone rings)
Andrea:
Hold on guys just a second. (Picks up phone) Hello? (Pauses covers mouth with hand. Shakes head. The others look intently at her) I'm so sorry Mrs. Cortez. Saturday? All right we'll all be there. (Hangs up phone)
Cole:
So? What was that all about?
Katarina:
Is Richard ok?
Andrea:
(Hesitantly/Sadly) Remember the car crash? (Katarina nods) He's gone. (Cole puts his arm around Gabrielle. George holds Katarina. Andrea is still by the phone looking devastated. Lights fade to black.)
