SW1000 & SW1001

Glen Lyn, WV; May 1998.
This SW1000, with a 1000 hp powerplant, one of only of 120 ever built, has the typical one stack, the grid over the hood and a flat roof. This one was hired to pull coal in and out of a power plant off the Norfolk Southern Bluefield District.

Folkston, Ga; June 1999.
An SW1001 of unknown origin  is being hauled south from Waycross.

Ashland, Ky; May 1997.
This SW1001, also with 1000 hp engine and also somewhat rare, was built for tight clearences to maneuver around industrial sites. Here, 1218 is switching Coke Express cars into the steel mill off of the CSX busiest mainline before the Conrail merger.
