General Electric B23-7
CSX B23-7
Albany, Ga; May 1998.
Southern, in typical fashion, had GE make a custom version of the B23-7
long hood forward and high short hood.
NE Chula, Ga; November 2000.
NS 4031 is part of power transfer that includes over a dozen engines.
If the renumbering system was systematic, this unit was Conrail 1917, part
of the first Conrail order for these engines, which rides on AAR type B
road trucks.
Houston, TX; November 2000.
Other than the AC boxes, this SP unit is as pure of B23-7 as it gets,
and is riding on the GE-made trucks.
Houston, TX; September 1999.
It seems that an extra vent at the end of the long hood was on some
engines but not others. NS 3971 does not have it, but 3981 does. SP5101
does not have it, but UP 143 and Conrail 1917 do.
