CSX 4689 SD70M in its fading EMDX paint scheme. The exposure to the
corrosive environment of the Bone Valley proved to be too much. This engine,
along with other SD70Ms from the EMDX 7000 series, was leased to replace
the CSX GP-slugs combination that worked for so long in the Bone Valley.
CSX later bought these engines. This is the first I have seen with a CSX
number. None of the other EMDX 7000s that I saw on that trip had CSX numbers.

EMDX 6043 SD40-2, with Rock Island paintscheme showing through the
decrepid EMD paint job, is part of a train that is about to cross the river
and get a new crew. A couple of months later, the same engine was pulling
a maintenance of way train on the Tallahassee Sub into Jacksonville, Fl.
