Ringling, Barnum & Bailey Brothers Circus
train
This is the only circus train left in the US. It tours
the US for the major portion of the year and then heads back to the headquarters
in Sarasota, FL for Christmas. The following pictures were taken on SuperBowl
Day 1999 in Macon, GA. That was a dark, freezing, miserable, rainy day.
I was chivering as I was taking the pictures, so it is no wonder they did
not come out well. But for right now it is the best I got, so until next
time...
By the way, I am still looking for a roster of the cars and their history.
Rough day for the pachyderm: after performing, walking over a mile
in the cold and rain, he now has to get stuffed in the "private" car with
his coworkers. And he is having none of it!!!!!
The accomodations for the performers and workers are actually not
much better. And how about that Bluebird for transportation to and from
work.
All the equipment is packed in colorful trailers which in turn are
loaded onto intermodal flat cars. The access ramp, that day was a little
slippery. The tractors had to leave some tires behind to conquer. Note
one of the numerous railroad landmarks in Macon: the Central of Georgia
coal tower.
