Marc Valero

Marc is the bass player and sound engineer for Backstage Pass. He grew up in New Jersey and has lived in Texas, Georgia, South Carolina. A familiar face on area stages for over 15 years. Marc's musical influences come from a variety of sources. He says," I enjoy older popular music, 50's and early 60's doo-wop, the British invasion and pop/rock from the sixties, reggae, 80's synth-pop, country, blues, modern rock, modern rhythmic dance music and good old Rock & Roll!" Like many bassists Marc started out on guitar and still enjoys playing the guitar at home. He says when he hears a new song he likes, he sometimes not only figures out the bass part, but will also work out the chord progressions and some riffs on the guitar. Marc not only learns songs the band performs but other songs just for the fun of it. After playing with a number of local bands, he says he enjoys Backstage Pass the most. "Well I've played in bands with Jack Higgins (drummer) before and it's great! A good drummer really makes life good for the bass player. Jack plays the song, he doesn't try to impress or overplay like most drummers do. When that happens the music starts to fall apart. Jack plays in the pocket and he always keep up with the latest drum technology to keep his sound the best it can be. I've known the lefty, Vince for a long time now, he's a great guy and keeps the rhythm guitar jammimg' all night. And you can't keep Scotty from diggin' in on guitar and coming up with the right sound for each song. Gary the newest member(well he's a veteran now) he's a triple threat on Sax, Keyboard and Vocals. What more could you want? Somebody to lug all this equipment around. That would be nice, but that's how we stay in shape!" said Marc.
