"Ye Shall Not Surely Die"
In the beginning
…"And the serpent said unto the woman,
Ye shall not surely die:" Genesis 3:4Nearly 6,000 years later
…Sounds like the devil is still declaring the same lie! The only difference is that he's using preachers instead of serpents. Both Adam and Eve were the holders of ETERNAL LIFE before they sinned! And the devil told them that they WOULD NOT LOSE IT IF they went against what God hath said! But when they gave heed to the lie, they not only lost fellowship, they died; first spiritually, then physically. Many of these preachers will say, "We're under a New Covenant, that was Old Testament stuff and it doesn't apply to us today." "The soul that sinneth, shall surely die," is
SPIRITUAL LAW regardless of any covenant! God said that IF you transgress, sin, rebel against Him, ye shall die! That was before any kind of covenant was ever made, such as the law in Moses' time, or the law of the Spirit given by Grace (Jesus) in the New Testament! The establishment of Covenants, New or Old does NOT absolve Spiritual Law, Our Will, responsibilities or consequences. "And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day." (Deut 6:24) God can't help you IF you're rebellious, you have to abide in Him and follow. (John 15)
The LAW of the Spirit,
exists EVEN BEFORE The LAW of MOSESGenesis 3:1-19
1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
Is Spiritual Law still in Effect
Just as God warned people in the past, "the soul that sinneth, it shall die" (Genesis 2:16-17; Ezekiel 18:4; 18:20). He is warning people today in the New Covenant,
The Apostle Paul saw the devil using the same tactical lie that he had been using for the previous 4,000 years and said in 2 Corinthians 11:2-4:
2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.
3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.
2,000 years later, the lie of the devil still hasn't changed, "Once Saved, Always Saved", "Once in Grace, Always in Grace", "Once a Son, Always a Son", "Thou Shalt Surely Not Die." Tell that to the angels that sinned! (Jude 6) They were called Sons of God! (Job 1:6) Tell that to Adam and Eve, they had ETERNAL LIFE! (Genesis 3) "I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not." (Jude 5)
Selah Scenario
IF you were in prison scheduled to die for the crimes you've committed, and there was somebody who loved you soooo much that came along and traded places with you, taking your punishment, but giving to you mercy and grace in releasing you of what you should have paid for! Now that you're free and have been forgiven, is that to say whatever crime you may commit now, if you kill someone, if you rob a store, etc, etc. you're not responsible for? Or will you get arrested regardless? As ridiculous as the scenario that the person WILL NOT be held responsible for new crimes may seem, is no more ridiculous as the "Once Saved, Always Saved Gospel" which many adhere to today!
