Adjectives- Words that describe nouns or pronouns.
EXAMPLES- Soft, Cuddley, Cute, Sweet, Smart, Ugly, Shy, Mean, Angry, Horrible, Excited.
EXAMPLE SENTENCE- He is cute.
Cute is describing He.
("Cute" can be replaced with any adjective.)
Adverbs- Words that describe verbs or other adverbs.
EXAMPLES- Softly, Cutely, Sweetly, Smartly, Shyly, Meanly, Angrily, Horribly, Excitedly. *Notice how these are all adjectives with "ly" following them. Most Adverbs are.
EXAMPLE SENTENCE- She quickly made the decision to jump.
Quickly is describing Made.
"Quickly" can be replaced with any adverb.
Noun- A person, place, or thing.
EXAMPLES- Chair, Foot, Monkey, Florida, Peach, Can, Soda, Cat, Dog, Animal.
EXAMPLE SENTENCE- The dog ran.
Dog is the subject of the sentence.
Prepositions- Words that relate a noun or pronoun to another word in the same sentence. They usually tell where something is, where something is going, or when something is happening.
EXAPMLES- After, Across, By, Down, During, From, In, Into, Near, Of, Off, Outside, Past, Since, Throughout, To, Toward, Under, With, Within, Without.
EXAMPLE SENTENCE- The pan is located under the stove.
Under is describing where the pan is.
Conjunctions-Words that join words, phrases, clauses, and sentences.
EXAMPLES- And, But, Or, So, Nor, Yet
EXAMPLES SENTENCE- The dog and the cat live here.
And connects Dog and Cat.
Interjections (Exclamations)- Words, phrases, and nonsense words that express strong feelings.
EXAMPLES- Aha, Ahem, Alas, All Right, Eureka, Help, Hey, Oh, OMG, Oops, Ouch, Phew, Ugh, Well, Wow, Yikes, Yipee, Yuck.
EXAMPLE SENTENCE- OH! I didn't know you were standing there.
Oh is used to express a strong feeling. Maybe shock.
