HE AIN'T HEAVY, HE'S DEE'S BROTHER
Shelby, Dee’s younger brother, surprisingly shows up at the house after traveling around the Orient. He decided to start a business in Los Angeles, selling an herb he found in China that prevents memory loss. Moesha, who has a crush on the handsome charismatic man, helps Shelby with a presentation to sign up sales people. Shelby pays her $200 for doing such a good job.
Dee tries to warn Moesha not to get too involved with Shelby because he has a habit of not following through with projects. Moesha brandishes the $200 Shelby gave her and tells Dee she should try to believe in her brother more. Dee confers with Frank about her brother. He helps Dee to see that she has been holding Shelby to her expectations of him instead of accepting him for who he is.
Shelby’s product is selling quickly; the orders come in faster than the distributor can fill them. In addition, Kim and Hakeem complain to Moesha because they haven’t been paid. Moesha calms her dissenters with free smoothies. But when she goes home, she sees Shelby with his bags packed to go to see the distributor in Canada. When he leaves, Moesha asks Dee if they’ll ever see him again. Dee calmly admits she doesn’t know. One month later, Moesha receives a letter from Shelby explaining that since the distributor was having so many problems, he has taken a job as a manager for a Reggae band in Jamaica. Moesha cashes in a CD player she bought with the $200 and pays her friends the money Shelby owed them.
