The Extinction of Man

6/29 - Human beings are so wrapped up in money, technology, and society that they forget about the things that are most important to us. One of those things is survival. Some say the extinction of man will arrive when the sun expires, or from a meteor shower. Some say God will come to take the good and leave the bad. But, I think we will bring about our own extinction before any of this happens. Through evolution we have learned so many ways to keep our species going, and how to survive. But, nowadays survival isn't important. We have so much overpopulation as it is. So now, we just don't care if we survive or not, because even if one person were to going around killing as many people as he could in his lifetime by hand and then were to commit suicide, the human race would not be affected by it, and the world would go on. There are so many incidents just like this one that already exist in our world, and to a lot of people it is just another news event. But, now we have bombs and biological weapons that can effect the human race. That is just one way that we will end ourselves though. We make all this pollution, and we spread all these diseases, and we make all this warfare, and eventually it is all going to collapse on us. There are a couple hypothesis that I have of ways that it will happen:

One I already stated. The violence and carelessness will make our world such an unsafe place that we dwindle ourselves down to nothing.

Another way is through greed. If there are monopolies and unfair treatment everywhere, there will be a lot of people who starve to death or die from diseases because they are too poor. There will also be a lot of people who are just barely surviving, and those people will probably revolt against the corporations. This will cause more death. Also, greed causes selfishness which is terrible for the general health of society.

A third way is through technology. The more we keep rely on it, the more problems there are. It is very hard to contain the internet and regulate it. No matter how advanced a anti-virus system may be, there are ALWAYS ways around it. Code for any program is finite, and so it cannot protect against everything. In the future if the entire economy relies on the internet, if it happens to collapse so will the economy. That cannot be good for mankind. Also, with technology and expantion of towns and cities, we are killing the environment. Remember the ozone layer and global warming? How about cutting down the rainforest and killing species and our oxygen supply? And then there's the problem of pollution. One thing that is good is that the more intelligent we become, the more we are aware of the bad we are causing our environment, and the more groups that fight to protect it.
