Aesthetics

6/7 - I feel that art is defined by talent. Personally I don't really appreciate art for shock's sake or art that is done in a matter of minutes.

As far as physical beauty, I think people's ideas of beauty are evolutionary. Our idea of an attractive person is one who is sexually mature and healthy. We look for these things naturally because they are important in finding a mate for reproduction. Also, I once heard that people can actually smell a suitable mate, but we don't even realize it. From this could stem other parts of attraction, and possibly some of them are just products of society.

This may come as a shock to some people but math is beautiful too. Not too many math teachers let you know this but it's true. Read more about it in Dr. Jerry P. King's The Art of Mathematics.
