THE PRISON POPULATION IN FLORIDA
by Facility
CONFUSED? As of October 2002 there were 74,873 inmates in the Florida prison system. The month before there were 74, 768, and the month before that it was 74, 249. Then, in apparent contradiction, Jeb Bush said crime in Florida is down compared to the past. Well, how can crime be down when the Florida prison population keeps going up? Each month the inmate population has gotten higher. We all know that Florida prisons hold a lot of inmates that should be on probation and parole and there are many that should be on house arrest. Maybe when Jeb starts to figure out how he is gonna come up with the money for Florida school class sizes he will think about bringing the parole system back and start letting some of these inmates out of prison that could be out here on probation or house arrest. This would save us tax payers. I'd rather see our money going to our schools than the prisons."Stingett"

KAY,
I HAVE A QUESTION? HOW MANY INMATES CAN FLORIDA HAVE IN THE PRISON SYSTEM BEFORE IT GETS TO THE OVERCROWD POINT?I HAVE HEARD DIFFERENT VIEWS, LIKE THE FEDS COULD COME IN AND RELEASE INMATES WHEN IT GETS OVERCROWD.
EACH MONTH THE NUMBERS KEEP GOING UP AN UP. AND THERE IS A LOT IF INMATES IN THERE NOW, OVER 74,873. BY JAN 2003 IT WILL HAVE BECOME OVER 75,000 INMATES IN FLORIDA PRISON AT THE RATE IT IS GOING, AND WITH THIS 85% LAW IT IS KILLING THE FLORIDA BUDGET FROM WHAT I HAVE READ IN THE PAPER.
WHERE CAN I GET THE INFORMATION ABOUT FEDS COMING IN AND RELEASING INMATES? I KNOW THAT FLORIDA DOES NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO BUILD MORE PRISONS BECAUSE FLORIDA HAS TO COME UP WITH THE MONEY TO MAKE CLASS SIZES SMALLER AND ALSO COME UP WITH MONEY TO HAVE PRE KINDERGARTEN. THAT WAS VOTED IN BY US FLORIDA CITIZENS.
THANKS
