"USE YOUR HANDS!"
or How Important is Toilet Paper?

I hope the public understands that the disease breeding in our overcrowded, unsanitary, airless prisons will cost us dearly one day.

Even if you are the type to believe that people in prison deserve whatever happens to them, I doubt that you want to pay the future costs of ignoring their condition now.

When a million or so prisoners are released into society, from what I understand, about 65% of them will carry contagious diseases like Hepatitis, Tuberculosis, and AIDS into our communities.

Because you don't like to give ex-offenders jobs, you'll pay their healthcare .

And I know you don't like to think about it, but it certainly raises your chances of dying from an epidemic outbreak of one of those diseases.

Don't you think it would be wise to contact the officials and demand they give the prisoners of Florida toilet paper?

A list of people to contact can be found at https://www.angelfire.com/fl4/prison/floridaresources.html

Dear Ms. Kay Lee

I am an inmate at New River Correctional Institution. We at New River here in Florida, need your help. We have a very big problem with health and comfort items.

The problem is getting toilet paper and soap. When we run out, we run out before they are giving it out again. Then we got to go with out. Now the office will tell us to use our hand to wipe ourselves off.  Or, if it is a weekend, they tell us to get up and take a shower. but what about the week days?  For the inmates that go to school, guards pass out about thirteen or fourteen inches of toilet paper and they say, if that don't work, too bad.

So I'm writing you today to see if you will help us tell the people. If the people knew what was going on in here, someone just might help us. So we here at New River Correctional are asking you to help us let the people know what's going on in here.

There is no way that we are to use our hand to wipe ourselves with no soap to clean ourselves.  One inmate just came to me and asked me for some toilet paper to blow his nose.  I did not have none, so he blew his nose in his hand. It's that Bad!

Help please! This is cruel and unusual punishment.

Can you put this out to the people? Just maybe someone will come forth to help us here in Florida. This shows how bad Florida prisons are doing.

We are not even going to talk about the food!

NOTE: Interesting trivia about this letter is that the prisoner's name and DOC number was covered with White-out. Obviously someone with access to this office tool did not want me to correspond with the prisoner. KayLee
