The Future that never was, is finally here

We're sending you back to the FUTURE! Actually, it's the New Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom. Here, the home of the League of Planets, is where you can fly on the Astro-Orbiter, meet Jules Vern, come face to face with a menacing alien, and even talk to a comical moving garbage can!

The New Tomorrowland was opened in 1994, replacing the white and gray cold looking tomorrowland of earlier decades. The more Science Fiction inspired Tomorrowland shows a galaxy united. A more Disney-ish place where humans, aliens, and robots can work together.

Tommorrowland News

--Who would have thought a short, cute Alien could take on a ten foot carnivor with wings and big teeth? Apparentl Disney execs did. Because Alien Encounter has been removed to make way for the more family friendly Experiment 626. Disney's newest star, Stitch, will do the same thing the previous extra-terrestrial did, just without the screaming, and killing, and blood. Where's the fun in that though? Look for the new attraction in 2004.

In the meantime, The Carousel of Progress and Timekeeper have been reopened, so enjoy them while you can.

Blast Off!

Space Mountain

Probably the most popular attraction at the Magic Kingdom, if not all of Disney World, is Space Mountain. The inside roller coaster takes you twisting and turning through the dark underneath flying stars and meteors.
As you wait in line, you can see the glowing cars racing back and forth above you on the twin(not identical) tracks set side by side. It's alot of fun.
The easiest times to get on seem to be first thing in the morning, and during the parades.

Facts

Carousel of Progress

Said to be seen by more people than any other theater show in America, Carousel of Progress has had many changes since the Worlds Fair in 1964. It originally ran(after the fair) in Disneyland. When brought to Disneyworld in Florida, it was rethemed and given a new song titled The Best Time of Your Life. Then with the New Tomorrowland, the old theme song There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow was brought back.
The show, which has a spinning theater around a stage, depicts an American family through the years as technology evolves, from electricity in the home, to refrigerators, to voice command homes of the future. The family, by the way, is Audio-Animatronic.

Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin

The newest addition to Tomorrowland is Buzz Lightyear's interactive ride where you battle against the evil Emperor Zurg. The cars keep score as you shoot away at robots, aliens, and monsters. Will you have what it takes to help Buzz save the universe?

The ride is located where "Take Flight" and "If you had Wings" formerly sat. The great thing is not only do you really shoot targets, but you also turn the car. If you like this ride, you will especially like Universal Studios ride Men in Black(oops, did I just advertise for another park) which unfortunately beats Buzz by a mile. Oh Well.

TTA SkyWay

One of the best ways to relax and get a good look at Tomorrowland at the same time is to take the Tomorrowland Transit Authorities Super SkyWay. Originally called the peoplemover, this tram located high above the ground takes you all around and even into some attractions, including Space Mountain. It's also usually the easiest to get on.

Shopping and Food

Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe

Right on the edge of Tomorrowland is a restaurant featuring the galaxy's hippest alien, Sonny Eclipse(pictured below). Sonny performs the whole day as you enjoy a menu created by Cosmic Ray himself. The restaurant is counter service and features regular fast food type items.

Merchants of Venus

Formerly the store for Alien Encounter, Merchants will now be a money-making machine selling Stitch. The store also features various sci-fi items, and one of those nifty T-Shirt making spray-paint machines.
