The first show that I was a part of was called Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Previously the part of Joseph had been played by, among others, Donny Osmond. The show was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and this production was directed by a very talented man(who also was responsible for getting me to perform in public) named Mario Pearson.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is based on the bible story about Joseph and his brothers. A very good story to read, and a great show to see. The whole show is musical, which makes everything flow more easily. It never really slows down too much and keeps peoples attention.

Being Joseph was a great experience for me. I was part of a wonderful cast of people talented in dance, singing, and acting. We worked very hard to get the show together, and the results were spectacular. I don’t think there was one person in any of our audiences who didn’t enjoy the production.

The stage was raked, which means it was kind of like a ramp that covered the stage, the back being the highest. It was a little difficult to get used to being on it at first, but after a while I got the hang of it. Behind that we had a big pyramid that came in for the scenes in Egypt.

All of the costumes and props were absolutely the best. Ms Herrington was the lady who made most of the stuff in our show. She also painted the raked stage in Hieroglyphics. It was beautiful.

The songs in Joseph are the catchiest tunes there are. From “Jacob and Sons” to “Any Dream will Do”, you get into them all and will probably find your foot tapping when you hear them. One song that I really loved was “Close every door”. Joseph sings the sad song in the prison after being framed by Mrs. Potiphar. While I was singing, the jailbars, being held by people in black cloaks, moved around me in different patterns. Really a great number and a great way of doing it.

If you every get a chance to see or be a part of a live production of this show, take it. It is truly one of the best shows there are. It’s inspirational, fun, and will leave you feeling very good about things. Trust me, I’m speaking from experience.
