I First Started Listening To Metallica Somewhere Around The Summer Of '94, Suprisingly, 2 Years
AFTER The Black Album Was Released. My Experience Somewhat Differs From The Usual Way Most
Metallica Fans Start Off.
Way Back In 1989, When I Was 13 And In 7th Grade, I Hated Metallica And Most Rock All Together.
I Was More Into My Generation Of Music, M.C. Hammer And 2 Live Crew. (Incidently My Friend And I
Used To Get Library Passes During Study Hall, And They Had These Stupid 70-ish Film Projectors
With Audio Cassetes That You Could Listen To. Hehe, Well We Would Take Out One Of These Educational
Films, And Put The Slide In This Projector Along With The Cassete, And You Could Listen To A Lecture On The
Biology Of Amphibians While Flipping Through The Slide Show. And We'd Of Course Take Out The
Audio Cassette And Pop In Aerosmith Or Alice Cooper And Make Like We Were Watching The Film
!!! LOL And Sometimes The librarian Would Look Over At Us Funny, Cause We'd Be Jamming And
Wouldn't Know What The Hell Was Going On!!!)
But Anyway, That's How It Started And I Never Really Liked Metallica. Which Is Suprising Why My
Taste Switched Over. But I Did Have An Older Sister Who Of Course Went Through That Whole Guns -N-
Roses Motley Crew Thing, So I was Never Very Far From It. I Knew About Metallica And Even Liked A
Few Of They're Songs, Enter Sandman, Wherever I May Roam And What-Not. My Sister Had The Black
Album, (EVERYONE Had The Black Album) And That Was Of Course When Metallica Finally Switched
From Strictly Heavy-Metal To Mainstream, And Everyone Started Listening To Them.
But It Wasn't Until I Went To A Concert In May Of 1994 That I Really Started Listening To
Metallica. About 10 Of My Friends Were Going, They Had Slept Out For Tickets And I Didn't Really
Like Metallica So I Wasn't Gonna Go. But One Of Them Ended Up Not Being Able To Go. So I Bought
The Ticket Off Him. And I Still Wasn't Even Sure If I Even Wanted To Go Because My X Was Going,
And Well, You Know How That Goes. But It Was 50/50, So I said Screw It. And Man, It Was A Sweet
Concert! I Can't Imagine What Would Have Happened If I Had Never Gone! We Started Partying At
2:00 In The Parking Lot, And Man, Like Everyone I Ever Knew Was At That Concert! It Was Awesome,
A Car Blew Up During Danzig, And There Were Some Of The Meanest Mosh Pits I've Ever Seen. (Don't Forget
This Was In The Early 90's Where Metallica Was Still Mostly Listened To By Bikers And Convicts,
That Whole Alternative Thing Hadn't Set In Yet.) And When Metallica First Came Out The Whole
Crowd Bent The Fence Down And Rushed The Stage! The Whole Time 300lb Security Guards Were Taking
Swings At People! All Of Us Who Were All Just About Under 18 Basically Ran For Our Lives!!! Man,
It Was Crazy. But It Was A Kick Ass Show. 2 1/2 Hours. They Played Some Songs I never Heard
Before That Were Awesome! As A Side Note, I Actually Got Ahold Of A Bootleg CD From That Exact
Show, You Can Even Here Me Screaming In The Background Somewhere!!!
But After The Concert, I Wanted To Learn More About Metallica And They're Music. (That's What
It's All About, Right?) So I Asked A Friend That Listened To Them To Borrow All The Metallica CD'S
He Had. I Wanted To Find Some Of The Cool Songs I Heard At The Concert. Hehe, He Bugged Me So Bad
To Give Him All His CD's Back, I Finally Did After Like 6 Months!!! Hehe, Man He Was Pissed.
Anyway, That's How I First Got Into Metallica. Now How I Got Started Playing Guitar Is A
Different Story. But Starts In The Same Summer Of That Same Year.
My First Guitar
This Story Is Kinda Funny, It Starts Off Some Time After The Concert At A Party Where A Friend Of
Mine, (Actually A Friend Of A Friend) Brought His Guitar. He Was Always Into Metallica And Could
Play Alot Of The Stuff I Had Always Known, (Sandman, Unforgiven) And Alot Of The Songs I Was Just
Getting Into. (Thanks To My New CD's!!!) I Was Absolutely Enthralled, I thought That Was The
Coolest Thing. He Showed Me A Few Things, Some Chords, One, (Which Was Wrong!!!) Fade To Black, (Which Was
Wrong!!!) And A Few Other Things. (Yes, They Were All Wrong!!!) Hehe, I Looked At Him And Said
That Was Something I could Never Do. And That Was That. But Over The Next Few Weeks I Got To
Thinking About It. The Way I Bought My First Guitar Is The Way Most Good Musicians Buy Their
First Guitar.I Just Ran
Out And Bought It Without Knowing ANYTHING About It. I Eventually Taught Myself How To
Read Tab, (No Easy Feat) And Got Better As Time Went On. (Yeah RIGHT! It Took Me 6 Months Just To
Learn To Tune The Damn Thing!!!) But I Had Been
Eyeballing This One Guitar For A While. And At The Time, I Had No Money.
Hehe, But HOW I Got The Money To Buy The Guitar Is The Funny Part!
You See... About 2 Months Before, 2 Friends And I Thought It Would Be Fun To To Go About Our
Weekly Binge, And Decided To Do A Few Drive-By Eggings. : ) So We Egged A Few Parked Cars, And When
That Got Boring Decided To Egg A Few Cars With Drivers Still In Them. Well The One Car We Egged Happened To
Be A Chivette Or A Gremlin Or Something And Decided To Lead Us On In A Low Speed Chase That Lasted
Like For 20 Miles. (He Followed Us And With 2 Crappy Cars It Took Us Like A Minute To Get To 60)
So To Make A Long Story Short, We Got Away, But A Short Time Later Some Lady Had Got Our Plate Number
And Wanted X Amount Of Dollars To Fix Her Car. So Everyone Had To Pay A Part, And My Friend Gave
Me His Share To Pay Off. !!! : ) Yep, Guess Where I got The Money For My New Guitar!!! LOL Man, When He
Found Out I Bought The Guitar With His Money, Man Was He Pissed!!! I Had To Run From Him Until I
Could Pay It Back! Hehe But It Was Cool Though, Because I had Gotten Paid Later That Week And
Paid It Off With That.
So, That's How I Bought My First Guitar. Now The Story Of My First Amplifier.
My First Amplifier
Now This Story Takes Place A Few Months Later. My Dad Had Shown Me A Few Things, And I Was Learning, And
Getting A Little Better. But After Seeing Me Walk Around The House For The Last 6 Months Plinking Around
On Mute Strings, He Decides It's About Time For Me To Get Some Ampage. But, Seeing As Neither Of Us Have A Spare
$100 To Go Buy One He Figures He's Gotta Improvise. (He's Good At That) So, At The Time He Was
Working For A Small Computer Company And They Had An Old, Small PA System That They Didn't Need
Anymore. And He Figures If He Takes This Measley 10 Watt Thing And Hooks It Up To A Pair Of Car
Speakers, He figures I Might Be Able To Get Some Sound Out Of It. (Better Than Nothing, Right?)
Well, He Did, And It Worked! Gave Me A Frayed 3ft Power Cord, (It's Amazing I Didn't Shock Myself To Death)
Hooked It Up And, BINGO!!! Power! : ) So Now I Got This Thing With 2 Car Speakers Attached
To It That When Cranked All The Way Up Can't Be Heard Over The TV, Which Is Just The Way My Dad
Likes It! Hehe The Thing Even Had A Switch That Was Meant For Combining An Additional,
More Powerful PA, And When I Pressed It It Gave Me This Sorry Ass, Overdriven, BUZZ That Almost
Passed For Crappy Distortion!!! Hehe, Ahhh *Sigh* Those Were The Dayz. Well, Have Fun!!!
