This song evoled into the rhythm changes. The "A" Section of the song is a great study in standard (I-vi-ii-V) chord progression substitution. You should also try substituting "Emaj7-G9-F#m7-F9" and "Emaj7-C#7#5#9-F#m7-B7#5#9" for the stanadard progressions below. I recommend that you obtain a copy of the original sheet music and compare those chord changes to the four different approaches to this 1930 George Gershwin (pictured above) standard presented below. The first example employs an interesting descending bass line. The second example is truest to the original arrangement. The third example makes use of the ascending Ain't Misbehavin' progression. The last example is similar to the 1967 hit recording by the Happenings that includes an extra measure of "B7" tagged on to the last bar of the A sections.
