Summertime
Below you will find the unplugged chords that I use to play the 1935 George Gershwin standard Summertime from the Broadway show "Porgy and Bess." Our unique "Unplugged" arrangements are created for one acoustic guitar and one voice. I play the song slowly in 4/4 time. This standard has been recorded numerous times. You should take a close look ay my reharmonization and the original progression. You should also check out the Billy Stewart and Janis Joplin versions. The opening progression to this song uses a minor folk progression (Im-V). My chord fingerings in standard (EADGBE) tuning are as follows: Am9 = 5x5500; E11 = 077777; Dm9 = x5355x; G13 = 3x345x; Bm11 = 7x775x; and Bb7b5 = 6x675x.
