The Lady Is A Tramp
Here are the chord substitutions that I use to play the 1937 Rodgers and Hart standard The Lady Is A Tramp from Babes In Arms. This arrangement uses a great tritone substitution [G13 for C#7] in the standard progression in the A section. I play the tune in a moderate 4/4 tempo in the Key of "E". Each box below represents one bar. If there are two chords, each chord is played for two beats. The chord fingerings I use (in a Standard tuning) are as follows: Emaj7 = 022444; G13 = 3x3455; F#m7 = 2x2222; B7 = x21201; Bm7 = 7x7777; E9/A# = 6x677x; Amaj7 = 5x665x; Am6 = 5x455x; Fo7 = 1x010x; C#9#5 = x43445; F#13 = 2x2344; B9#5 = x21223; Go7 = 3x232x; E/G# = 4x245x; G#m7 = 4x4444; C#m7 = x4245x; and C#7 = x4342x. For variation, try substituting the "Emaj7/G#-G6-F#m7-B7/F" or "Emaj7-Em7-F#m7-B7" for the ""Emaj7-G13-F#m7-B7" progression in the first four bars of the A section. For bars five through eight of the A section try substituting the "E/G#-Gm7-F#m7-B7" progression. For bars thirteen and fourteen of the A section, try substituting the "E-E+-A-B7" progression.
